Pick a lane, or give it some time.

Same with one user making 10 posts at a time to same community.

I block that lem.

Same, I understand why they do it, but I hate scrolling through and seeing the same thing over and over again. My blocklist is pretty long.

I think I have zero users blocked, but if I were blocking people it wouldn't be for this. Cross-posting is good for the lemmy ecosystem, it spreads engagement to more communities and instances.

[–] luthis@lemmy.nz 26 points 7 hours ago

No, because I follow multiple similar communities on different instances, and people crosspost to all of them at once, as they should, by design

[–] southsamurai@sh.itjust.works 21 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Nah, it can be annoying, but cross posting is a good thing. It decentralizes content. Not all instances are federated with all the others. Multiple communities is healthy for the fediverse. So cross posting is also healthy. Yeah, it would be nice if there was a way to collapse cross posts, but I'd rather deal with it than have things get too narrow.

Now post flooding? That can get old fast. Chill. Spread that shit out. We ain't gotta see it all at once.

I get the point and understand wanting to make sure your info gets out there.

Due to how it seems the majority of folks scroll around here by using New the multiple share are too annoying.

I personally start my day with Scaled view but once I’ve gone through that New is the only way fly. That’s when it bothers me.

Definitely should be a way to collapse it or customized. I can deal with one or two but once I see something more than times in over it, user gets blocked.

[–] nobodysreadingthis@quokk.au 2 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

That's pretty obnoxious. Why not just avoid cross posted content?

[–] EntheoNaut@lemmy.ml 0 points 4 hours ago

Generally it’s something I don’t want to deal with, especially if the post isn’t of interest to me. Thin the herd.

Clearly I’m not alone.

[–] anon6789@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

I post all my posts for the day in a block, so you'll see me post 3-6 things and be done. It's just easier for me. I post mainly educational content, so getting the posts out of the way all at once lets me just pop in during my breaks in the day to answer questions.

I don't think I'm annoying, and if anything, if you don't like my content, it keeps it in a relatively small range of your feed instead of it popping up multiple times. I figure I will annoy someone no matter what method I do it, so that's what I'm going to stick with. After 3 years of doing it, you've either blocked me or you're fine with it. 😁

Nah we good. I like your content. Owls and other avians are gtg in my book. Big dinosaur fan.

I don’t do it to everyone but there’s a number of folks I’ve just been like, no sir I don’t like it.

[–] anon6789@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago

Yay! I'm an exception!

I try to avoid being preachy or political, so I think that helps my case, even for those not much interested in animals, as crazy as that may be.

This is the second time I've seen this post...

[–] Trying2KnowMyself@lemmy.ml 6 points 7 hours ago

You probably already have me blocked, but rapid cross posts get collapsed in the new feed or when they’re otherwise both on the same page. I’ll post the same thing to several relevant comms on different instances at once because I care less about those instances, but still want to put relevant content there. I don’t tend to xpost to multiple relevant comms on the same instance.

[–] bugbear@lemmy.sdf.org 7 points 7 hours ago (2 children)

It would be nice if the cross posts got hidden, I wonder if any clients do that. It's one of my favourite feature in Tusky to hide multiple boosts in your feed.

[–] davel@lemmy.ml 5 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Cross-posting actually does get hidden to some extent, but I don’t know how it works. The feature was added a year or more ago, I think.

[–] bugbear@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

Oh, interesting. I haven't made that work then. So far I keep seeing cross posts. Somtimes literally one after another.

[–] davel@lemmy.ml 5 points 6 hours ago

Yeah, however it works, it clearly could be improved upon.

[–] frischkaesbagett@feddit.org 1 points 4 hours ago

Isn't that something piefed does?

[–] besselj@lemmy.ca 6 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

I block them even quicker if their account is a week old or less

[–] Joker_1902@lemmy.ml 2 points 5 hours ago

The funny thing is, there was a similar post a day ago in a different server with the same community. And no it’s not annoying because this gives to those posts bigger reach. Just scroll past them, no need for blocks, it’s not that serious.

I haven't ran into this problem too much here. I would do this daily back when I was using Reddit

[–] rouxdoo@lemmy.world 3 points 7 hours ago

Yeah, I do the same thing. The third time I see the thumbnail user gets blocked.
