AI - Actually Indians
(In case it isn't clear, because people thought I was racist last time, this is in no way a bash against Indian people, just the sheer number of times large "AI" companies have turned out to be exploiting that area)
"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"
A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.
AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

You say that, yet the majority of AI PR spam I've seen in open source repos is coming from Indians.
So AI is actually being used by Indians.
All my Indian homies say this joke isn't racist.
No, you're right. Tesla was using Indians to "self drive" in the past. It's kind of crazy that that's not talked about more.
And I wouldn't guarantee the plan of so-called AI Robots isn't to effectively offshore domestic labor by having them controlled by people in low-wage countries.
That is the current plan.
If you want Neo to do something complicated like clean the bathroom or vacuum, you’ll have to let a 1X employee wearing a VR headset remotely access the body (and cameras) to assist with training.

My god, scammers are allowed to exist with near impunity by their local governments; why would you ever effectively let someone into your home that is beyond the reach of the law?
Isn't Waymo still doing that?

Just came across this comparison recently in the book The Reverse Centaurs Guide to Life After AI by Cory Doctorow (https://www.theguardian.com/books/2026/jun/22/the-reverse-centaurs-guide-to-life-after-ai-by-cory-doctorow-review-the-real-price-of-artificial-intelligence). Highly recommend. Also, I’d be curious to read any books that cover these AI sweatshops.
