That's very cool. They grew the NbSe2 between a graphene monolayer and SiO2 to prevent degradation. I'm looking forward to reading the actual paper when I have more time and access to see what precursor they used to work well in that small space and how they enabled growth in that 1nm gap.

We do t talk enough about the upcoming marriage of AI software with quantum hardware. Look how frightening AI has become using legacy hardware. Imagine the power it will have with quantum computers. What am I missing?

That quantum computing is not superior to classical computing except WRT specific problems for which quantum effects can be leveraged. And currently there are no quantum advantage algorithms known or proposed for ML-related computational tasks (though there are ML methods applied to quantum optimization). To put it in perspective, the computer in your pocket is thousands of times more capable WRT inference than the best quantum computer on the planet, and we don’t expect that to change, because quantum computing isn’t meant to replace classical (“legacy”) computing, but rather to augment it.
