I am thinking about learning to program and then working for Meta. How much do they pay and should I do it? Thanks Lemmy. Love you!

If you don’t already know how to program, it’s too late. Meta is busy training their AI on everything their programmers do. Then they’ll fire most of them and let AI do the work.

Seriously, though, today is the wrong time to learn to code. The whole job market is chaos and there’s a ton of uncertainty. Don’t take this path unless you are really passionate about coding and don’t care about an unstable job sector.

On top of this, it's not trivial to get hired at meta. They pay absurd money but you have to get in the door first.

If you can get hired by Meta, you can get hired by a slightly more ethical company for the same pay. Note there is no ethical employment under capitalism, but Meta is nearly the worst.

First learn to code, after that if you’re good and are happy doing 60h/week maybe they’ll hire you
