I just negotiated a raise at work first time doing it but it was that or move to a new job so thought I'd go for it. Now I don't have to do leetcode
Ask UK
Community for asking and answering any question related to the life, the people or anything related to the UK.
Spent a week on a boat chilling with pelicans and cormorants and getting black out drunk. You'd think I'm joking
How... did that happen? Were the birds taking advantage? Do you still have your kidneys?
Let's just say, I took some saucy photos of these birds in exchange for booze in my free time. *Leers sordidly*
Pelicans are weird too. A couple of flaps and they're airborne, and then they just glide like Spitfires in a lazy dog fight. Saw some kingfishers too, little blue furballs unwilling to stay still for a camera shot the damn teasers.
Random Swede here, I just need to tell you about the meaning of your community name, askuk, in Swedish.
"As" means a cadaver (mainly a dead animal) but it's one of those words that's used for more than it's actual definition so it kinda means just "ass" too and is used as a curseword kinda like asshole. "Ditt jävla as" is basically "you fucking asshole".
"Kuk" means dick, so "askuk" literally means cadaver dick or in slang just "assdick". It's not a common curseword but absolutely a thing some Swedes say sometimes.
Not once have I read it as "Ask UK" before reading it as the Swedish meaning and laughing.
Ok, thanks, I'll leave you guys with this knowledge and let you be now. Bye!
Thank you now let us get back to our Mummy dicks
Thanks for the little educational piece, fellow ass dicker.
Spent the week at the coast with the wife and the dog and it was lovely. I'm back at work in 2 days and dreading it. Eirgh.
Got promoted, relapsed a bit on my cutting down alcohol, ran 25k. However the partner and children are going away for the week, I'll miss them a bit but not as much as I'll love a week to myself.
Congrats on the promotion and 25k!
I'm immensly jealous of having the week to yourself! I'm struggling to even get 20 minutes and I'm exhausted :(
I got exhausted just by reading your first sentence!
We relocated to South Holland for almost two weeks. I have a few work meetings next week and otherwise working remotely. Wife and dogs are just chilling.
Owner of the place we are renting told us about a dog beach close by. What fun! We seem to be collecting more dogs as we throw the ball and our two run into the drink after it. We had six dogs chasing the ball at one point.
The week was ok, but we had some inlaws down for the weekend, so took them off to beaches and nice places, to the point that I don't want to go back to work today.
And you? Got your walking desk sorted?
My week was OK thanks. My dad ended up in hospital on Thursday after myself and several staff from his local surgey couldn't get him into the car (couldn't walk). Told me to take him to hospital or call an ambulance, which he wanted to simply go home. Told him it's not happening and that I'll call an ambulance if he refuses. Turns out he has celluitis and he's still in hospital now.
Got my desk and walking pad set up, yeah! It's decent, done about 9k steps today so far on it. It's surpsing how warm it's making me , I definitetly couldn't do it on the hotter days! It also gives me "sea" legs when I stop and get off, I almost have to hold onto the walls of the house when I'm walking about for a bit!
Sorry to hear about your Dad... yeah, I think "previous generation" (aka "older") men don't like the fuss and would rather struggle on for days than get help.
I should know, I'm probably one of them 😉
How's walking and working at the same time? I'm curious as I really need to lose some calories and 10 hour days at a desk with occasional trips to the kettle isn't good... but typing? And Teams calls?
