THE POLICE PROBLEM

5222 readers

The police problem is that police are policed by the police. Cops are accountable only to other cops, which is no accountability at all.

99.9999% of police brutality, corruption, and misconduct is never investigated, never punished, never makes the news, so it's not on this page.

When cops are caught breaking the law, they're investigated by other cops. Details are kept quiet, the officers' names are withheld from public knowledge, and what info is eventually released is only what police choose to release — often nothing at all.

When police are fired — which is all too rare — they leave with 'law enforcement experience' and can easily find work in another police department nearby. It's called "Wandering Cops."

When police testify under oath, they lie so frequently that cops themselves have a joking term for it: "testilying." Yet it's almost unheard of for police to be punished or prosecuted for perjury.

Cops can and do get away with lawlessness, because cops protect other cops. If they don't, they aren't cops for long.

The legal doctrine of "qualified immunity" renders police officers invulnerable to lawsuits for almost anything they do. In practice, getting past 'qualified immunity' is so unlikely, it makes headlines when it happens.

All this is a path to a police state.

In a free society, police must always be under serious and skeptical public oversight, with non-cops and non-cronies in charge, issuing genuine punishment when warranted.

Police who break the law must be prosecuted like anyone else, promptly fired if guilty, and barred from ever working in law-enforcement again.

    That's the solution.

Our definition of ‘cops’ is broad, and includes prison guards, probation officers, shitty DAs and judges, etc — anyone who has the authority to fuck over people’s lives, with minimal or no oversight.

RULES

Real-life decorum is expected. Please don't say things only a child or a jackass would say in person.

If you're here to support the police, you're trolling. Please exercise your right to remain silent.

Saying ~~cops~~ ANYONE should be killed lowers the IQ in any conversation. They're about killing people; we're not.

Please don't dox or post calls for harassment, vigilantism, tar & feather attacks, etc.

Please also abide by the instance rules.

It you've been banned but don't know why, check the moderator's log. If you feel you didn't deserve it, hey, I'm new at this and maybe you're right. Send a cordial PM, for a second chance.

Fuck this pig. Someone twice his size should body slam him, straddle him, force him into submission, punch him in the face, and openly mock his objections. I’d like him to know the terror and pain that little girl felt. It’s the least of what he deserves.

[–] anugeshtu@lemmy.world 3 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

That's some mental illness shit. Hope he gets removed and she gets compensated

I hope he gets removed by a lightning bolt and the wrath of an angry god.

[–] Zephyr@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 hours ago

Yeah I only threw you on the ground and punched you in the face, what's your problem?

[–] Bluescluestoothpaste@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Cops should be trained to never punch anything ever, that's how boxers and fighters are taught actually first day in the gym

without proper gloves you should never punch anything, high risk of breaking your own hand.

It's just a complete lack of training, or just counterproductive training, because no trained teacher/coach will ever tell you to punch something without proper gloves fastened and secured.

[–] Senal@programming.dev 3 points 2 hours ago

Your takeaway here is that the cops should receive better martial training?

Im genuinely not sure how to address that.

Anyone who watches this video and still thinks "Defund the Police" is too extreme can join the piggies in the dock when the People's Tribunals start.

"It is just one bad apple!" said the person who doesn't understand the proverb.

[–] snoons@piefed.ca 3 points 5 hours ago

Three apples sit at a table with one bad apple.

There are four bad apples sitting at a table.

They've been allowed to get away with too much of this shit, and now they're learning that they can get away with anything.

She was doing literally nothing before he slams her to the ground, and then he punches her in the face and threatens to do it again, saying "Who said I can't punch you in your face?"

Holy shit. These people need to face consequences for abusing their authority. Qualified immunity was a huge mistake.

Here's an article about it: https://www.actionnews5.com/2026/08/12/civil-rights-lawsuit-filed-against-arkansas-state-trooper-after-traffic-stop-altercation/

It's a civil trial, so doesn't sound like he'll actually face criminal punishment. I hope she wins millions, but even if she does it will be the tax payer footing the bill.

I've been saying it for 2 fucking decades now.

Settlements for misdeeds should come out of the police pension fund. and take that motherfucker into the negatives. force it to take out loans and sell off investments, to cover every single settlement.

See how long they last enjoying their gratifying abuse of the peasantry when their pension fund is 370 million dollars in the hole, and no ones getting a dime.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 9 points 5 hours ago

Solve this the American way and it will be politically easier. Just require them to carry malpractice insurance like doctors do. The problem would be solved overnight, insurance won’t cover the bad apples.

[–] ccunning@lemmy.world 6 points 5 hours ago

I’d also be interesting to see how the group dynamics play out when the real shitty cops start costing the simple enablers money out of their own retirement pockets….

Jesus it looks like he was trying to cuff her (why? she was going 11 over the speed limit?) and then lost control because nobody likes going in cuffs. So then he follows up this dumbass decision to arrest her by throwing her down to put cuffs on her. She lands on her back (fucking ouch) so he can't cuff her in the front and wants her to flip over. He can't do it because she is stronger than him so he decides to beat and threaten her until he gets what he wants. Then after she is arrested and even less of a threat he decides to slam her into the hood of the car for no fucking reason. Even by pig standards this is grossly excessive and fucking disgusting.

[–] charade_you_are@sh.itjust.works 2 points 5 hours ago

terrible. fuck pigs

Justice will not come from the courts

[–] MML@sh.itjust.works 1 points 4 hours ago

If I see him I'll shoot him, I really don't give a fuck and they deserve to know at least one person would lay them down.

[–] DrPop@lemmy.world 13 points 10 hours ago

The punch unecessary and excessive. The slam unnecessary and excessive. The alleged open container is enough to bring her in to test her but she doesnt have the right to call her mom in this immediate situation. He should have deescalated the situation by advising her why he's detaining her and explain she can call her from the jail. This guy had an ego trip and just wanted to beat a black woman. She kind of knew her rights. American police are poorly trained and not punished harsh enough for what they do. When the police are punished they get paid leave and the payouts come from the city rather than the individual or the police budget.

[–] callouscomic@lemmy.zip 7 points 9 hours ago

Fuck all cops, and their families, and their friends, and everything about and around them. They should all drop dead.

[–] dudesss@piefed.ca 15 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

Doesn't get commented, but these ass wipe to-be felons often seem to slightly grope before handcuffing.

[–] boaratio@lemmy.world 21 points 12 hours ago

This fucking high school dropout needs to have hot coals creamed up his ass when he goes to hell. Sooner would be better than later.

Can't blame him. He's been meaning to try that one on his wife and needed practice before getting home.
