They ran an ad campaign and everything which would have been fine if the current administration didn't spend their time pissing on existing ATC controllers and withholding their paychecks with government shutdowns.

You answered your own question

“Tower, we’re losing altitude rapidly.”

“Skill issue.”

Fingers crossed these folks are getting real training.

[–] rustydrd@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Me too. Especially because the personnel selection for air traffic controller is pretty tight under normal circumstances. You not only have to demonstrate aptitude during training but also social and communication skills, which are super important for this job. I somehow doubt that filling the ranks with gamers is going to accomplish that.

Social aptitude and Communication are critical skills for online gaming. Your "doubt" is about 20 years out of date.

I dunno man I was playing counter strike yesterday (why do I do it to myself I don't know) and I can tell you its about the same as it ever was 20 years ago when I played.

I'm hoping the dearth of good ATC on VATSIM is because the good folks who volunteer to do ATC with morons are getting paid for it now. They're actually quite good at the job.

I guess MS Flight Simulator was the training.

I will admin that I did not see american ATC communication turning into a CoD lobby coming

skipping 2 years of training, sounds like trouble about to happen.

So big news that I almost died from curiosity.

Isn’t almost everyone a “video gamer” to one degree or another these days?
