The rules/moderation in the news communities are part of why I started my own, I recommend it so we can get more media sources and topics in here.

This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.
Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.
Posting Guidelines
All posts should follow this basic structure:
- Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
- What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
- Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
- Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
- Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.
Rules
- Post only about bans or other sanctions that you have received from a mod or admin.
- Don’t use private communications to prove your point. We can’t verify them and they can be faked easily.
- Don’t deobfuscate mod names from the modlog with admin powers.
- Don’t harass mods or brigade comms. Don’t word your posts in a way that would trigger such harassment and brigades.
- Do not downvote posts if you think they deserved it. Use the comment votes (see below) for that.
- You can post about power trippin’ in any social media, not just lemmy. Feel free to post about reddit or a forum etc.
- If you are the accused PTB, while you are welcome to respond, please do so within the relevant post.
- Keep the comments in YPTB posts about the moderation action itself, not about the general topic in which the moderation took place.
Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.
Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.
YPTB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.
Some acronyms you might see.
- PTB - Power-Tripping Bastard: The commenter agrees with you this was a PTB mod.
- YDI - You Deserved It: The commenter thinks you deserved that mod action.
- YDM new - You Deserved More: The commenter thinks you got off too lightly.
- BPR - Bait-Provoked Reaction: That mod probably overreacted in charged situation, or due to being baited.
- CLM - Clueless Mod: The mod probably just doesn't understand how their software works.

The News community rules don't specify acceptable topics, and there are many posts there on entertainment news.
Lemmings can be weird about entertainment and pop culture news. Some think it’s beneath them and not worthy of being posted.
There’s a few popculture and television communities that would be better fits for your original post.
That news community is one of two communities I have blocked. The mods there, at least one, do have some power-tripping tendencies.
Edit: Ah yeah it was JonsJava that banned you. I'd avoid him like the plague.
How did you see which it was? Using the website when I check it just tells me "mod."

It was reported numerous times for being off topic.
Pop culture really needs it's own community. I think it deserves to be here, but in a place people want it.
I try to let the community help decide what belongs. The more diverse the reports, the more likely it doesn't belong. That's why we have the "... at moderators discretion" in the rule.
So why the ban?
Then it might be prudent to add no pop culture to the rules.
As it is, you allow some and not others and that’s confusing for users.

Right. I took the time to write out the difficulties I'd had getting an accurate diagnosis and addictive medication in the hopes it might help someone else out.
/u/givesomefucks removed the post without bothering to read it because people see headers and formatting and assume it must be AI. I posted saying that fairly screwed up to doing the community that tells itself is the safe space to discuss mental health issues. A permanently banned me and falsified the mod log claiming it was for medical misinformation.
I must be a complete piece of shit. Thank you, for taking the time to insinuate that. I'll strive to learn from your example in how to be a better person to strangers on the internet.

Just as a bunch of other commenters on this thread, I too think that your post wasn't fitting to the community. But your post deserves only a downvote level of reaction. Removing post is overboard, but banning is definitely PTB.
Coming to your general behaviour on lemmy, I beg you to reflect upon yourself. You're speaking to fellow humans here, and it wont hurt to show a bit courtesy.
For the most part, Lemmy does not like news that's not political. IMHO if it shows up on the fucking major news orgs, then it's news. Funny how AP News can say something is "news," but Lemmy won't think it counts as news. lololol
But you have a great option: just start your own news community. Better yet, start an entertainment news community. Then post whatever the fuck you want.
You'll get hated, and stalked, and accused of working for Russia and shit, but just ignore the haters. You may have to find a different instances or start your own, but do it! I think the more varied and weird shit on here the better.

The world would likely be a much happier place for everyone if people took the time to actually get to know a person instead of assuming they're part of whatever group they like hating and immediately jumping to insults and treating others like shit.
I'll admit that we've had run-ins before where you were a complete ass. But I still don't think your post should have been removed from that news community the way it was.
Givessomefucks and Jonsjava are not the most judicial of mods. Best to avoid their communities and your experience here will be better for it.
About 2/3 of my comment history is bad jokes, and I have a dark sense of humor. Some people aren't fond it. I try not to be a jackass to anyone, but getting jumped on for something people were very aware was a bad joke is frustrating.
People love to think of themselves as accepting and welcoming and caring, good people who treat people they're just meeting right... as long as those newcomers think and respond in the approved manner. A lot of people deal with trauma by developing a dark sense of humor. Even knowing someone is joking and having no idea the things that person has been through in life that might be behind them needing to joke about that topic, so many here jump to instant judgement and treating that person like shit.
It's about as far from welcoming, accepting, or even simply treating another human beings like a human being and not like some subhuman monster they feel justified in hating and shitting because it dared make a joke they weren't fond of.
Ehhh jokes have limits and you should know your audience.
But I’m still here defending you on the topic of this post. The culture here takes a little time to get used to - it’s different than Reddit and the like even though it seems similar on its face.

The OP being a difficult user doesn't have much bearing if they follow the rules of the community when posting. The rules should clearly state if Harry Potter is a banned topic.
I don't check every post in the community - not enough time in the day. If it's reported, I review. If not, it will likely fly under the radar

It's news? I like the actor. I'm fairly disappointed. I thought others might also have opinions they would like to share on this social media discussion platform.
There were several other posts on the News community about things like Firefly starting to make a new animated series, an actress giving her opinion on a movie, and multiple TMZ articles that really were celebrity gossip instead of news.
When you're relatively new to a place and mods seem to be deleting things and banning for no reason with no communication that's a bit odd. This community says it's the place to post such issues. Why would you accuse someone trying to use it for that of being attention seeking?
Because there was no PTB behavior. If you want entertainment news, choose a different community. And anything Harry Potter related is honestly as toxic as fuck right now due to the author being a disgusting transphobe, so that's a red flag too tbh.
News doesn't have lists of disallowed topics in their rules. There are posts from TMZ of all places posted on the community. And... weirdly everything in the comment you replied to addresses the things you just said.
What about Nicholaus Holt being cast in a tv series makes it gossip? That’s a factual piece of information.
