This will be the first GTA ever that I'm not going to purchase.

[–] KingGimpicus@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago

Its a six hour exclusivity nothing burger. Anyone who genuinely gets upset about this has already been caught in the filter.

[–] AwesomeLowlander@sh.itjust.works 29 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The extended look will also be available at 9pm ET on YouTube, but for six hours, it will essentially be paywalled behind a Netflix subscription.

Cry me a river. First world problems, jeez.

As someone who constantly records live sporting events to watch them later, it ain't that hard to avoid spoilers.

[–] maltasoron@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

How can there be spoilers for a trailer

[–] Loid@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I heard this GTA will have crimes. can you believe it?

[–] mrfriki@lemmy.world 29 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Which fans? The ones that are going to pay $100 or whatever they ask them to pay for that game?

[–] FoxtrotDeltaTango@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I’m not going to pay $100 for a video game

[–] ms_lane@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I won't pay more than $50. ($20 in 1990 adjusted for inflation)

[–] CosmoNova@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I think it‘s $80 for the base version but realistically that’s the light version and the deluxe version will be the actual base game with all the day 1 content. They pulled the same shit with RDR2 where nobody pre-ordered the base version because it was missing a bunch of stuff.

[–] Exusia@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

"$80 for 80%"

[–] the_riviera_kid@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago

I just dont give a shit anymore. The company is scum, and the game is way over hyped.

All the constantly awful things take two has done to employees and contractors plus the blatant disrespct for the customer means I stopped caring long ago.

[–] SpruceBringsteen@lemmy.world 21 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Manufactured outrage to pump visibility

This shit is going to be clipped to hell and spoon fed to people for the next five months anyhow.

It is scummy to charge money to see an ad, but why would you pay money to see an ad to begin with. As if that trailer or whatever isn‘t gonna be everywhere within an hour. Someone‘s gonna screencap and upload it and since it‘s GTA 6, it‘s gonna spread like wildfire, so no problem anyway. The attempt is indeed scummy though.

[–] ms_lane@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It's only exclusive for 6 hours anyway...

Someone will still upload it before then, but it's 6 hours. That's it.

[–] PetrusvonHyde@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

The problem is, it is six hours today. But what about next time? Will it be paywalled for six hours, 24/48/72... A week? Is this going to become a trend amongst the industry? I mean, if we brush it off as "just six hours", six can become "forever" pretty easely. Corporations will get away with anything you ley them do.

[–] caut_R@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

I don‘t really get the fuss then. If people are crazy enough that they can’t wait 6 more hours to watch an ad… then they gotta pay the crazy tax.

[–] clifmo@programming.dev 3 points 1 day ago

Shut up and just share the video. Don't do the work for them by sharing outrage and controversy. Share the content and let's get on to critiquing it

[–] ech@lemmy.ca 9 points 2 days ago

"I can't see yet another ad before other people do! Boooo!" Wtf is wrong with people?

[–] JoeKrogan@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

This is taking so long to release that I have long stopped caring. I dont even have time let alone the desire to play it even if I had it for free.

[–] Regrettable_incident@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

My only gaming machine is a steam deck, and I can't see GTA6 running on that. . . so I won't be playing it, at least not for a few years until I upgrade. Like you, I don't really care.

[–] Alexstarfire@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

IDK why anyone who care this much about it. Just wait for a review or for the game to come out so you can get actual video of the game from people.

[–] gibmiser@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

(They don't, the "outrage" is an excuse to publish an article about it, aka an advertisement)

[–] radiouser@crazypeople.online 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Taste of things to come kids, I assure you.

[–] Exusia@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah this happens every fucking time. This time it's 6 hours. Next time it's a week.

This is how DLC started. "It's not like we cut content from the game to sell!" Was only true for that batch of games for a year or two. The industry's scum sucking knows no limit and will absolutely pay wall more for longer if this isn't denounced properly. It is never, ever "just" anything when it comes to these parasites.

[–] AwesomeLowlander@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's an ad. Who cares if it's a year.

[–] Exusia@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] AwesomeLowlander@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What is it gonna be the next time? Idk, I can't remember when I last bought an 'AAA' game. If gamers want to be that outraged, vote with their wallets. All these complaints and yet they end up buying the game anyway...

[–] Exusia@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I agree here, this continues to be self inflicted by lifetime players, but is also natural failing of legislation to get involved. After the ESRB in the US formed (since that's my experience) it seems the government simply handwaved any need to get involved ever even as games came online and marketplaces got added.

Parents similarly cannot simply just know the intricacies of every hobby their kid slides in and out of, and few hobbies are quite as insidious to may or may not allow extra purchases quite like gaming. Not even all millennials grew up as gamers, and can pass off that knowledge. And many more just play fifa with the boys on weekends and just wanted a product that works - they treat it like an online NES. Turned it on and go with no deeper thought or realization of the market it supports.

🏴‍☠️ x 2 if I'd be interested which I could not be less.

it’ll be ripped from netflix and put on youtube anyway. that’s just how modern content works.

be annoyed/angry at the right things.
