Just don't ever shoot anything 3 times in short succession to hide bodies when you're trying to sneak around, because that definitely won't help unless you're in the 60s.

Wait, they actually shoot the kid?
Good thing it was the plot gun that does whatever the writers want it to do!
Sure, the zat is a bit of a gimmick, but I always thought the three escalating effects kinda fit the vibe of the goauld tech in general.
The shooting will continue, until morale improves.
Shooting from the closed position too.
I noticed that while making this. You would expect the Zat to do the whole erection thing here before Teal'c fires. But no, just a couple frames after what you see here in this meme, that Zat fires, from its flaccid position.
From memory the early zat props were either open or closed, they weren't mechanical so the gave him the wrong one for that scene.
Yes. They shot the kid to cause a shock to his nervous system. Or something along those lines.
It's interesting that it wouldn't work on his father a season or 2 down the line.
They do explain how Teal'c's brainwashing was more involved (or something) than Ryac's brainwashing. It was just a different type of brainwashing, so an electric shock wouldn't fix it.
"We need a reason to do another clip show, damn it!"
I never would have considered that episode a clip show. It was full of flashback scenes, but almost all of the flashbacks were entirely new footage. Those flashbacks actually gave us a lot of new background info about Jaffa culture and such.
