  • cereal made by Kellog then packed with sugar post ww2 due to huge sugar surplus then sold directly to kids and convinced everyone that it was good for you somehow. The Vietnamese eat Pho for breakfast which is why they won the Vietnam war.
  • The low fat craze convincing everyone that unsaturated fats are bad and putting sweetners in everything
  • dairy industry convincing everyone to drink milk even though adults dont need milk and large portions of the population are lack toes intolerant
  • the food pyramid that put wheat and corn into everything and continues to do so making my coeliac ass life very difficult
  • italian food isn’t even real
  • contemporary protein craze to sell cheese creating waste product and probably combat vegans by making raw meat eaters filled with worms

Any others im missing?

Soy having estrogen in it, that's why "soy boy" is an insult and soyjaks are a thing

[–] GoodBleanis@hexbear.net 18 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Meanwhile in America they pump cows full of all sorts of hormones so beef and dairy has extra estrogen in it.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 8 points 3 weeks ago

That's also why children are reaching puberty at 10 years.

[–] supdawg813@hexbear.net 2 points 2 weeks ago

Dairy cows also only produce milk after giving birth, when estrogen levels are just naturally high.

Bacon is an op. And not just the craze of the late 2000s, which was an astroturfed viral marketing campaign. Even the very notion of Bacon being a staple breakfast food was an ad campaign in the 1920s that caught fire.

Maybe associating it with breakfast needed a push but i don't think most people needed propaganda to want to eat that's basically smoked meat candy

Holy fuck I went to look and didn't even get to any mention of bacon before I got to this:

His best-known campaigns include a 1929 effort to promote female smoking by branding cigarettes as feminist "Torches of Freedom", and his work for the United Fruit Company in the 1950s, connected with the CIA-orchestrated overthrow of the democratically elected Guatemalan government in 1954. Bernays' involvement in Guatemala facilitated US imperialism and contributed to decades of civil unrest and repression, raising ethical concerns about his role in undermining democratic governance.

italian food isn’t even real

wrong, it is, but it was invented by tourist agencies in the 70s

[–] BeanisBrain@hexbear.net 6 points 3 weeks ago

I'm just gonna go ahead and say it, they did a good thing for once

  • What if we made celiac disease fashionable and convinced people that gluten is unhealthy for everyone
  • Breakfast is the most important meal of the day! That's why you get sugary bullshit foods and white bread
  • Meat is for men, vegetables are for women

The low fat craze convincing everyone that saturated fats are bad

they are though? unsaturated are the good ones. "saturated fat is good actually" is a psyop by the meat and dairy industry to make "good old" lard, butter and bacon seem healthy and it's been successful in making westerners eat even more crap than before

edit: also the dark evil side of veganism is in on this. the vegan collaborationists if you will. the ones that want to make you eat virgin coconut oil

[–] Dort_Owl@hexbear.net 10 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)
[–] puppygirlpets@hexbear.net 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

i also only eat things that have been fucked at least once

[–] Snort_Owl@hexbear.net 6 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

My bad i always get them mixed up i should have checked. I remember the low fat craze being about reducing all fat rather than just saturated and then packing everything with sweetners instead to make processed food more appealing when its just shit

[–] Krem@hexbear.net 12 points 3 weeks ago

I often hear the thing about low-fat products replacing fat with sugar, but what kind of products does that work for? if you reduce the fat and add sugar, the product will become sweet when it wasn't before. i guess it's possible for junk like cookies and ice cream that can be fat-heavy and already have sugar, replace some of the fat with even more sugar?

anyway my psyop is soy. most people realised the "soy is estrogen" myth is pure BS, but somehow it had huge residual effects where soy got a rep for being generally "unhealthy". this made shops give more shelf space to inferior milks like oat and rice, and expensive bougie (and more environmentally destructive) milks like almond and macadamia, and the superior milk, good old soy, got put aside. vegan protein powders in the west are now mostly made from peas (which is fine, but soy has a higher protein content so why not use the superior bean). soy is pretty much a superfood and the meat lobby successfully made the very name sound unhealthy

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 3 points 3 weeks ago

Some saturated fats are healthy, and we need them. Coconut oil immediately comes to mind.

[–] Ekranoplane@hexbear.net 2 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

No the unsaturated fats are a cheap industrial product that mess up mitochondria and a whole host of other effects. https://fireinabottle.net/

[–] Krem@hexbear.net 7 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

website definitely not affiliated with the meat industry

unsaturated fats are not industrial products lol

[–] Snort_Owl@hexbear.net 5 points 3 weeks ago

The conveyor belt of almonds falling into my mouth. Sounds very industrial to me

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 2 points 3 weeks ago

Some are good, some are bad.

[–] Ekranoplane@hexbear.net 0 points 2 weeks ago

No but the vast majority of unsaturated fat in a standard modern diet will be. Ancestral human diets involved mostly saturated fat (except for a few exceptions like the Inuit) but after WWII people started eating mostly unsaturated fat.

[–] EmmaGoldman@hexbear.net 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

You're maybe thinking of trans fats, which have been banned for decades.

That's one of the worst websites I've ever seen, pure meat industry propaganda.

[–] Ekranoplane@hexbear.net 2 points 2 weeks ago

No I'm talking about how your mitochondria membranes have a composition directly determined by the ratio of saturated to unsaturated fat you eat. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC5952932/

[–] avoid_the_noid@hexbear.net 11 points 3 weeks ago

the weird "seed oils are the source of all evil" shit that's been astroturfed since that one dude went on a joe rogan podcast

[–] Ishmael@hexbear.net 9 points 3 weeks ago

-Washing eggs and keeping them refrigerated -Tossing anything that has spent more than two minutes outside of a heat lamp or fridge -Completely arbitrary and made up expiration dates

[–] Speaker@hexbear.net 8 points 3 weeks ago

lack toes intolerant

Ableist foot fetishists, smdh my head

[–] Gorillatactics@hexbear.net 8 points 3 weeks ago

So many food crazes come down to the belief that there is a singular substance that makes food 'good' or 'healthy' and that the best diet is one that maximizes consumption of that one substance.

I feel like 60% of the candy aisle in the super market is the result of a campaign in the 1940s by the meat industry to to find a use for the last bit of the pig that wasnt used for anything else. What even is jello?

[–] Renin@hexbear.net 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

There's actually a relevant Video on this, released recently by FPTV.

Overly Brief Summary: Imperialist expansion over everything. At the expensive of sustainability and nutritional benefits of the food grown. (Don't have time to expand right now)

I found a YouTube link in your comment. Here are links to the same video on alternative frontends that protect your privacy:

We should be more tolerant of people who lack toes.

[–] infuziSporg@hexbear.net 5 points 3 weeks ago

Making sweeteners and artificial flavorings from corn is literally a biochemical psyop.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 5 points 3 weeks ago

When farmers were being pressured not to anthropomorphize their animals, assured they don't have feelings and should be treated as any other farm machinery.

[–] Renin@hexbear.net 5 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Okay I have some time so I'm gonna toss some in:

  • Electrolytes
  • Agave Nectar / Coconut Sugar / Honey
  • E621 (By extension E= Bad, in general, always.)
  • Quinoa Superfoods
  • "Cage-Free" (There's no strict legal definition in what that even means in a lot of places)
  • Fruit Juice is healthy
  • "Locally produced" (When it's repackaged.)

Oh and recently they seem to have pivoted from electrolytes to Vitamin and "High fiber" drinks as their latest push.

I think the next push might be a Soylent 2.0

[–] ikilledtheradiostar@hexbear.net 3 points 2 weeks ago

you think electrolytes are a psyop?

[–] ComradeRat@hexbear.net 3 points 2 weeks ago

"Locally produced" is usually just a way for the petty bourgeois farmers to greenwash their exploitation of migrant labourers ime

[–] supdawg813@hexbear.net 3 points 2 weeks ago

Breakfast in general is a scam. If you're a breakfast eater thats fine but if you're not, also fine. "The most important meal of the day" it is not and frankly 3 square meals a day in America is at least double the calories that a normal person should be consuming.

[–] Sleve_McDichael@hexbear.net 3 points 3 weeks ago

contemporary protein craze to sell cheese creating waste product and probably combat vegans by making raw meat eaters filled with worms

At the store today I saw protein bread, protein chips, and protein yogurt. Apparently the ideal form is to be a walking, swollen bicep

[–] ClassIsOver@hexbear.net 2 points 2 weeks ago

That's not even the craziest thing about Kellogg. He started selling his garbage corn flakes because they were flavorless, and he thought flavorful food caused horniness. He marketed the cereal to curb masturbation. He was also a huge fan of coffee enemas.

Graham crackers were conceived around the same time, and for the same reason.

[–] EmmaGoldman@hexbear.net 2 points 2 weeks ago

Everyone here already knows about MSG so I don't have to tell you that any health effects are just racism.

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 2 points 2 weeks ago

The Vietnamese eat Pho for breakfast which is why they won the Vietnam war.

Hmm. I never eat breakfast because I "hate breakfast" but maybe I just hate western breakfast foods. I don't really want soggy wheat or corn dissolving in milk as my first meal of the day, but a nice savoury soup actually sounds like the ideal thing to eat when you first wake up. This epiphany might just end up changing my life. Or maybe I'll be too tired tomorrow morning to remember.
