President Donald Trump has predicted that Greenland will be under U.S. control by the time he leaves office in January 2029.

Trump has fiercely pushed to acquire the semi-autonomous Danish territory in the Arctic since before he returned to the Oval Office. The globally unpopular move has helped strain America’s relationship with its European allies, who see it as a threat to Greenlanders’ sovereignty.

Real America’s Voice host Steve Gruber told Trump during an audio interview Friday, “I made a prediction on this program that before you left office, that Greenland would be under our operational control.”

Like fuck it will

How are these not threats of violence?

If a random country's ruler said, "We will take Utah by 2029", America would have kidnapped the entire family and killed a few hundred people in the process.

[–] kingofras@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

There’s a silver lining in it though. If some act of violence by god, or some unhappy trump supporter causes him to technically never leave office, then this will be among the Chief Pedophile’s best aged proclaims.

[–] sepi@piefed.social 3 points 1 day ago

No zombies. Dead means left office. There is a succession plan in place, which is the "no zombie" clause.

[–] mastod0n@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Why does the phrasing "when he leaves office" send shivers down my spine?

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

this is great news!

it means he's planning on leaving office!

🤔 then again....he never delivers on his promises, so does that mean he's expecting to never take control of Greenland and thus never leave office?

silver lining, moving to Greenland will be a win/win.

Remember: TACO.

I’m not entirely sure all of the current US will be under federal control by the time he leaves office…

Edit: thanks to DoctorNope for demonstrating that I’ve never had an original thought

[–] DoctorNope@lemmy.world 32 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I am not even sure all of the continental US will be under his operational control by the time he leaves office.

[–] cmbabul@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 day ago

I’m more sure that it won’t than it will

Trump-Epstein files. Trumpstein files

[–] ninjabard@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago (2 children)

So he will leave office? We have it in writing.

[–] theuniqueone@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

For a day before he coups the goverment due to "election fraud".

[–] ninjabard@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

If he believes he has that much support he's even more delusional than I thought.

[–] TransNeko@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

watch... he will sign an executive order declaring that his moldering corpse is required to be put on display in the White House Oval Office for eternity.

[–] cristigyk@piefed.social 11 points 1 day ago (2 children)

trump just doesn't understand the notion of "NO". no wonder he's accused of being a rapist.

[–] Sunflier@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago

no wonder he’s accused of being a rapist.

Not accused, adjudicated. He IS a rapist.

[–] TransNeko@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Trump was never told NO when he was growing up. every time he asked mommy and daddy to let him rape people... they said "yes my darling little orange turd". and he lapped it up.

[–] BigDiction@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Well on the brightest this means that won’t happen.

[–] Wispy2891@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What won't happen, that he voluntarily leaves office before his death?

[–] BigDiction@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Any unequivocal statement Trump makes tends to be grade A bullshit

[–] Eryn6844@piefed.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 day ago

just like he is going to win the war with Iran...

[–] Lydon_Feen@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago (3 children)

The EU really needs to actively, and covertly, fund secession movements within the USA. Do to them what they have been doing for decades around the world, and are actively trying to do to us right now.

[–] Aceticon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago

Well, the US did it to the EU by funding Leave in the UK (most notably via Cambridge Analitica), so it would be fair.

[–] Bluescluestoothpaste@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah can we defederate from the USA?

[–] Flower@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

That's already happening on many levels. Military agreements with Canada, rolling out European payment system, stripping out Microsoft. There are a lot of things moving.

[–] SwifferWetjet@thelemmy.club 2 points 1 day ago

Probably have and realized a good chunk of us who would actually get down with that would just rather return to their home turf as decided by a fuckin 23andMe😂

[–] NoForwadSlashS@piefed.social 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You'd think NATO would have some written protections about not threatening to annex other members.

[–] RIotingPacifist@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago (1 children)

NATO has always been first and foremost a tool for US control, it didn't really matter when the children were fighting because the US could just tell them to cut it out, but now the parent is bullying the kids and the kids are wondering what the point of this arrangement even is.

[–] MiddleAgesModem@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

The only party threatening to disband NATO is Trump.

[–] kokesh@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The only thing that will happen for sure is that he will shit himself every day.

[–] newton@feddit.online 3 points 1 day ago

Too shit or not too shit

[–] BillyClark@piefed.social 8 points 1 day ago

Real America’s Voice host Steve Gruber told Trump during an audio interview Friday, “I made a prediction on this program that before you left office, that Greenland would be under our operational control.”

“You'll be right. They want to do something,” Trump said. “Greenland is important from our standpoint, not from their standpoint…You should make that bet.”

I honestly try my best not to listen to Trump speak because it seems to hurt my brain and be bad for my soul, so maybe I'm just misinformed here, but I'm surprised that Trump would even acknowledge that he'll be leaving office.

[–] y0kai@anarchist.nexus 8 points 1 day ago (2 children)

meh he'll be dead by the end of next year anyway so JD can get a full 10 year term.

[–] MBech@feddit.dk 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I've heard "he's right on the verge of dying" for 10 years. Same with Putin. I'm not holding my breath. He won't go on his own, he needs a helping mob with a bit of rope.

[–] y0kai@anarchist.nexus 1 points 1 day ago

I think Theil will help. With his grooming of JD all the way to the office of VP and his weird obsession with the antichrist, it would be fitting.

[–] ZC3rr0r@piefed.ca 1 points 1 day ago

This feels like the monkey's paw-level curse. I hate it.

[–] Zedstrian@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] Bazoogle@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Why have there been so many articles posted on Lemmy recently where people are linking to the MSN, Yahoo, or apparently AOL version instead of the original?

[–] Zedstrian@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

People might use a news portal for the convenience of finding articles from a variety of sources, but doing so also makes it harder for people to determine the source of that information or block content from certain outlets.

[–] Bazoogle@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's just kind of surprising that users on a decentralized platform would go out of their way to use an ad/user tracking platform rather than an RSS feed or something more privacy friendly.

[–] Zedstrian@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 day ago

Ultimately I think the Threadiverse would be well-served with user growth, even beyond a privacy-focused niche, but there should always be a baseline of quality to acceptable news sources, something that news portals obscure.

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

The US isn't under his control during his time in office. The man can't even win a war he started with the biggest military in history. If there was a wet paper bag in the room he would be found within it and lost.

[–] Bazoogle@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

So, not much difference between US and Russian administrations.
