The established date doesn't mean much if you've laid off the employees that helped created your big titles.

Perfect logo for upcoming nostalgia bait remasters of their older games. Absolute garbage company.

[–] SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Yep MS has failed hard to gain any market share with the generation of gamers that came after millennials. So now they are trying to win back millennials and Gen X gamers who used to own an Xbox with nostalgia bait. They already did the rebranding to the old XBOX logo and the release of the limited edition green console.

As with everything Bethesda makes I'm sure this will be better once the modding community gets their hands on it.

[–] Alandrus_Sun@ttrpg.network 1 points 4 hours ago

This is something that has made me angry about post Skyrim games. They feel purposefully hollow to be filled with mods. But, mods are the garnish on your meal-not the meal. Mods won't save a bad game. No different than putting a bit of thyme on a burnt steak will make it anymore edible.

[–] you_are_dust@lemmy.world 56 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Maybe it's nostalgia bait, but I don't care. I hate the minimalist era that we've been in for awhile. Give me 80s or 90s styled stuff any day.

That's cool I wish they would unveil Elder Scrolls 6.

[–] Apeman42@lemmy.world 62 points 3 days ago (3 children)

It's been longer since that teaser than the time between Skyrim's original release and the teaser.

[–] acosmichippo@lemmy.world 29 points 3 days ago

I thought for sure you were wrong but that was EIGHT years ago.

[–] jedibob5@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I maintain to this day that they had barely started on anything relating to the actual game when the teaser was released, and it was entirely just an attempt to save face from FO76's disastrous launch.

[–] trem@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, I once heard that in the video game industry, you start pre-production of a title about a year before you get started with proper development (a.k.a. "production").

So, pre-production means brainstorming the game concept, theme, maybe initial concept art, maybe some prototypes etc..

But to quote Wikipedia:

The game entered pre-production by 2018, formally being announced during Bethesda's E3 2018 conference. The game entered active production in 2023 following Starfield's launch.

So, presumably they kicked in pre-production for a few weeks in 2018, specifically to produce that trailer. And then put it back aside and didn't really get started until 2022 or so. 🙃

[–] velma@sh.itjust.works 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

gasp

It really has been that long.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I don't know what you guys are talking about. It's perpetually 1998 in my mind.

Hey, crazy stuff going on with the president, huh? They're even talking about voting for IMPEACHMENT!!!

Boy, you know you have a political mudslide when they're talking about impeachment! Nixon almost faced that, but he resigned. Which means the last impeachment was in 1797! Crazy right???

...hey, what's going on in 2026?

.....

eyes slowly widen as jaw drops

[–] Aielman15@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Hello, I come from the future, please tell your Floridian friends to vote Blue in the next election (and ask them to tell the same to their friends). Just a few hundred would suffice.

Trust me, it's really, really important.

[–] acosmichippo@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

Now that they finished the logo they can get to work on it.

[–] Hadriscus@jlai.lu 13 points 2 days ago

Pretty damn cool. Still not enthusiastic about what they put out nowadays but I like the logo

[–] Kaligalis@lemmy.world 43 points 2 days ago (2 children)

It matches their overall nostalgia farming corporate strategy. Looks very retro. Maybe it can get some to buy yet another version of Skyrim.

[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 10 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I refuse to call Skyrim retro.

[–] thatKamGuy@sh.itjust.works 15 points 2 days ago

Dread it. Run from it. Retro status arrives all the same.

[–] CosmoNova@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

I too think we‘re long past the point of calling games that released as recent as 15 years ago retro because they simply don‘t evolve in the speed they used to.

Imagine looking back at 1993 when you’re in 2008. Yeah, that’s a huge leap in technology. But look back at 2011 now and you realize that stuff doesn‘t feel nearly as ancient.

From all I know a game needs to be at least 20 years old to be considered retro these days. That‘s the most common definition you will find these days.

[–] thingsiplay@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Why would anyone buy a game, because of a company logo?

[–] SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Have you seen the response when MS rebranded the Xbox logo to the old version? They immediately put Asha Sharma on a pedestal. Many adult gamers that are my age (30+ year olds) are idiots who are hankering to wallow in nostalgia of their youth.

[–] BoosBeau@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

I can hear Shuntaro Furukawa laughing from here...

[–] DrSleepless@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

Microsoft “Hey Bethesda, we need some more distractions”

[–] FreddiesLantern@leminal.space 13 points 2 days ago

So yeah Stranger things was pretty good.

[–] saltesc@lemmy.world 27 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Bethesda still releases new stuff?

[–] arudesalad@piefed.ca 32 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Yes! A few weeks ago they released a statement saying they were still working on the elder scrolls 6

[–] KoboldCoterie@pawb.social 10 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Look how long it took Team Cherry to make Silksong, and look what we got for it. Maybe this is a sign that ES6 will be a masterpiece and won't be a buggy mess propped up by a rampant modding community willing to put in the work to fix it all.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 16 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)
[–] Doc_Crankenstein@slrpnk.net 10 points 2 days ago

The incentive structure is wildly different between the two.

Team Cherry is a small team of passionate developers. Bethesda has grown into a corporate monstrosity that drains developers of their passion to push out slop.

[–] LurkingLuddite@piefed.social 8 points 2 days ago (2 children)

copium huffing noises intensify

... look, I know they'll eventually release ES6. The problem is the people expecting it to live up to ANY hype when NONE of the previous games have EVER been great on their own without mods...

[–] Aceofspades@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 days ago

I totally thought you were going somewhere else for a bit.

...look, I know they'll eventually release ES6. The problem is the people expecting may not be alive when it finally happens.

Meh, both are possible I suppose.

[–] Edges@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago

3 4 and 5 are all great without mods, haven't played the earlier ones

I have low expectations for 6 but I want them to get it out of the pipe so 7 can be good

Really we should be getting hype for 8 or 9 by now :(

[–] TheColonel@reddthat.com 18 points 2 days ago
[–] Simulation6@sopuli.xyz 8 points 2 days ago

Unless it has 'under new management' on it, I don't think anyone is going to care.

[–] stevles@aussie.zone 8 points 2 days ago

Ah yes, 1986, the last time they were a proper game dev.

[–] AgentSeven@lemmy.zip 8 points 2 days ago

Bethesda on point with a course correction already! Damn son, slow your roll. A new logo? Shit, fuck the Elder Scrolls, we got a new logo.

[–] RightHandOfIkaros@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

I hope they actually release a Bethesda game so they can put this logo on it.

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 6 points 3 days ago

That's up there with the logos for OCP and ENCOM.

After closing a dozen popups on that shitty site, I determined... eh, not really, but similar. Inspired by.

[–] Darkenfolk@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago

May I bring you the good word of our lord and saviour ublock origin?

[–] Bonje@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

I thought that said battlefield and was excited for a 2142 remake. It's been a long day.
