Canvas Stats has been updated for 2026!

The site was rewritten to be more efficient and now has a ton more features such as:

  • better search
  • View stats for instances
  • More user stats including graphs for users

The biggest feature is Achievements. If you go to your profile on the site and click the "Claim the profile" button, it will unlock any achievements you have earned the 4 years that Canvas has taken place. More achievements will be added as they are suggested. It is guaranteed that everyone will get at least 1.

If you have any ideas for new features for the site, let me know. Currently working on

  • deeper search features such as listing the users who placed pixels at a coordinate or within an area.
  • more options for selecting what to render on the canvas

Edit: Thanks to everyone who has reported bug and issues with the site. I'll get around to fixing them all tonight

This was my first Canvas event, I didn't even know there'd be achievements. Finding that I got an achievement for "Nice Coordinate" (Placed a pixel on a coordinate containing 69) gave me a chuckle.

I'm also happy I made it in the top 100 contributors, which I'm only mentioning here because I have nowhere and no one else to brag about it to. I may be a loner who spends their weekends on their computer, but working on a cool collaborative project like this was a wonderful change of pace.

As a bit of a statistics nerd, this is my favorite thing after the event itself. Thanks for once again compiling the data into an easy to browse format.

Looking at the pixel counts and the pixels placed per hour charts for the top 10 users, it seems most of them had very little sleep over the 48 hours... Gotta admire the dedication.

Achievements are a cool addition, although it hurts my completionist soul that they're set up in a way where you can never get all of them... As for suggestions, maybe add a page listing all the possible achievements? And taking it one step further, how about global stats showing what percentage of users have each achievement?

Judging by the matrix chat for the same users, I'm pretty sure they did get very little sleep 😆

Not sure which you mean, but it's a bit sad I don't get the "place in the top 100" or top 50 achievements for years I'm in the top 25. I feel like I shoud get them all.

In 2024, i was ranked 6th, i barely sleep XD

[–] Dave@lemmy.nz 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

In 2024 I got 17th and placed a bit over 3k pixels, which is a record for me. But I feel like I remember those earlier years being a bit different. I think that 2024 might have been over 3 days?

[–] Snoopy@piefed.social 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I don't recall well but maybe the canvas was also bigger ? More people participated.

Anyway, it was different because overtime we no longer want to draw a flag and i hope that trend will continue. And i think there is much less grief than before. :)

The first year, there wasn't a rule against multiple accounts. I remember running several accounts and constantly flicking between them. After that, it was decided that people should only have one account, and that rule was introduced. So it's hard to really assess the number of people participating in that year. If the second year was longer like I think it was, that would also explain more people participating.

Just looking through the archive, the 2023 canvas was four times as big (1000x1000). It was quite empty at the end despite all the extra accounts people were using.

In 2024 the canvas started at 500x500. At a certain point in the event, the canvas doubled in size, opening up a whole extra canvas, making a 1000x500 canvas. It was fuller but still had a lot of gaps at the end.

2025 was 500x500, and was pretty nicely filled in, some whitespace but not that much.

2026 is definitely the most complete. You can zoom in randomly and almost any spot you look it looks like every part has been filled in with something. It was 500x500 as well, which seems like the right size for the event.

I agree it's nice to not have everyone try to fill in flags that are way too big or that stretch out to overrun other art.

[–] Snoopy@piefed.social 2 points 2 days ago

Oh that explain lot things, thank you :)

For example, there's an achievement for using all the colors in the palette and only using one color of the palette. Cannot do both obviously, so you can only get one of those two achievements.

The available achievements can be checked from the source on GitHub.

[–] Dave@lemmy.nz 1 points 2 days ago

I guess you have the option of doing one in one year, and the other in a different year, then you can have both just not for the same year.

[–] LordAmplifier@pawb.social 2 points 2 days ago

This year, I placed more pixels than in all three years before that combined (1,177 vs 705)! A lot of those pixels were in defence of a drawing, but I didn't think it was going to be that much. It's still only 8.6% of the pixels my home instance placed (13,583), but that's not surprising considering two others from that instance made the top 10 this year. Very cool stats, thanks for compiling them every year!

I didn't remember that I participated in 2025 canvas as I didn't make a design on it. Technically I participated in all of them then, but on different alts.

[–] Pandantic@midwest.social 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Technically I participated all 4 years, I was just on .world in 2023.

Thanks for putting this together!

[–] the_real_monte@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The website goes off usernames and has no way of knowing 2 usernames are the same person, but if you let me know both usernames I can merge them.

[–] Pandantic@midwest.social 1 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

@Pandantic@lemmy.world - My original Lemmy instance
@Pandantic@midwest.social - the one I switched to (and currently posting from)

edit: it's also weird, I'm looking back over my old .world one for the first time in 3 years and I have so many 0 upvote comments, and I went into the post and a bunch of people have 0 upvote comments. I wonder what that's about... (not that monte should know just musing)

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 2 points 2 days ago

Whoop, my instance placed third and my humble contribution landed me on 6th; and it was worth it.

Thanks for the updated stats :)

I have the bug that the Google fonts wont load after page-reload. The console shows an error within a serviceworker with the font URL https://fonts.googleapis.com/css2?family=Material+Symbols+Outlined%3Aopsz%2Cwght%2CFILL%2CGRAD%4048%2C400%2C1%2C0%27 (which gives a 400).

This should be fixed now

[–] Mubelotix@jlai.lu 1 points 2 days ago (3 children)

There is a bug with casing, both are me and whichever I click yields to the one associated with edition 2023 so I can't see my stats for this year. Thank you

I have merged the accounts and now you should be able to view both years

[–] the_real_monte@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

There was a bug with Authentication in 2023 and 2024 where the Canvas db created separate users if you capitalized you user name and then didn't the next time you logged in. I thought I merged everyone's account, I must have merged yours with the lowercase when I should have chosen the uppercase

[–] Snoopy@piefed.social 1 points 2 days ago

Look at the FAQ you can link your accounts by contacting the_real_monte. I will do the same for snoopy. :)

[–] Mac@mander.xyz 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (2 children)

Wait, ididn't participate but someone with myusername did

[–] ohshit604@lemmy.halstead.host 3 points 2 days ago

Is this a question or a statement?

[–] Deebster@infosec.pub 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Not that I can see

Edit: there's a mac on programming.dev who played in '23 and '24, is that what you're talking about?

[–] Mac@mander.xyz 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You missed my play-on-~~words~~username. :(

[–] Deebster@infosec.pub 1 points 1 day ago

Oh. Then yes, I guess I auto corrected the typos and didn't realise they were load-bearing.

[–] Syrc@lemmy.world 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I love stats and I love achievements, needless to say I love this site lol

A graphic issue I’ve noticed is that no matter which year I click, the bottom of the page says “View your pixels placed in 2025” (though the links actually lead to the ones from the correct year)

(Also, the link at the bottom of this post doesn’t work correctly, but the one at the top does)

Link is fixed now

Hi. I checked the source code of the achievements, and I noticed something wrong with the achievements for having 90 pixels or more in the final drawing and for having less than 10 pixels in the final drawing. The description for said achievements talk about 90% of placed pixels and 10% of placed pixels, respectively, but that's not the behaviour of the code that checks for these achievements. I don't have my computer around me, so I can't pull request right now. I appreciate it if you look into it. :)

[–] the_real_monte@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I have updated the math so this should now be correct.
