Hahhaha I'm so horribly disgusted

I'm really starting to hate the wasteful packaging, and plastic in general. But if you have to buy cheap you don't get a choice lol.

I'd love some bigger and recyclable squeeze tubes like toothpaste. But designed to be easily rolled up from the end so you can squeeze everything out. And no air going in. And you could open a clamp at the end to refill the tube too. Made from long lasting inert and food safe silicon.

The longer I live, the stupider the world becomes.

My wife did this with her salad dressing the other week and this is but one of the many reasons we each prepare our own salads

[–] idiomaddict@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Though you could clean a squeezy mayo bottle out by making salad dressing in it

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Fair enough, but I buy mayonnaise by the jug.

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 2 points 6 days ago

Much more efficient especially if you have a small silicone spatula. Although making salad dressing with the dregs is still a good precursor to rinsing it out for recycling.

Oh yummy. Watery mayo. Just like big brother used to make.

[–] joeljoelle@piefed.blahaj.zone 15 points 1 week ago (1 children)

thanks I'll look at this whenever I'm feeling hungry lol

[–] JohnnyEnzyme@piefed.social 3 points 1 week ago

Sounds like a plan!

(altho the secret here is about titration, not replication lol)

Jfc there is a reason the lid is flat stop storing them lid side up let gravity do the work over its life in the fridge.

[–] JohnnyEnzyme@piefed.social 1 points 5 days ago

Suckers don't even need a fridge!

[–] this_1_is_mine@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Centripetal force?? Like does nobody ever just swing their damn container like it owes them money?

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 6 points 1 week ago

I had to stop lending money to squeezy mayo because of this 😞

[–] lemmyng@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (4 children)

Yeah, I used to do this with hand soap.

[–] HerbGrower@slrpnk.net 8 points 1 week ago

At least that is something you normally mix with water as you use it

[–] Starchildjohn@leminal.space 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That sounds like it would taste even worse on fries

[–] 0ops@piefed.zip 1 points 1 week ago

I hear it cures covid

[–] derek@infosec.pub 3 points 1 week ago

Why'd you stop?

[–] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago

Can do it w vinegar and hot sauce if it's the thick kind

[–] rbn@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 week ago

I do that to clean all kinds oft containers (Mayo, Ketchup, Mustard, Jam, Guacamole etc.) and put the watered-down solution into salads, sauces etc. that are liquids anyway.

[–] unknown@piefed.social 4 points 1 week ago (2 children)

If you add a couple of teaspoons each of a neutral oil and vinegar to what's left in the bottle and then shake it like it owes you money, you've basically just made some more mayo.

If there's less than like 3 or 4 tablespoons of mayo left in the bottle though this wont work as it's relying on the remaining emulsifiers in that mayo to combine everything.

[–] JohnnyEnzyme@piefed.social 1 points 5 days ago

Cool, thank you!

[–] Obi@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 week ago

"shake it like it owes you ~~money~~ mayo"

[–] svcg@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Mayo should come in tubes like tomato paste, so you can squeeze it all out.

[–] DarkSirrush@piefed.ca 6 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Hate to break it to you, but i have never seen a squeezy tube of tomato paste, its in cans here.

[–] svcg@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Well over there milk comes in bags, so clearly Canadian norms can't be trusted.

[–] DarkSirrush@piefed.ca 1 points 1 week ago

That's the eastern side of Canada, those guys are weird.

[–] albbi@piefed.ca 2 points 1 week ago

My wife buys tomato paste in a tube and it seems like the weirdest thing to me. Those small cans are usually perfect for my usage.

[–] dogs0n@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago

Left over toothpaste tubes then, just something better!!!

[–] oats@piefed.zip 1 points 1 week ago

It does, over here. Not many brands, though

[–] rapchee@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

option a) buy glass containet with big opening (also better in many other ways)
option 2) cut the sucker in half

[–] Grass@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Literally everything is wrong with this. Mayo at all, especially the fake shit in grocery stores, but on fries?

[–] JohnnyEnzyme@piefed.social 2 points 1 week ago

Grasshoppers always know best. 🙂

[–] HerbGrower@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 week ago

Yeah, garlic mayo is so much better. Or cheesy chips and gravy is really nice, but also like 1000+ kcal.

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 week ago

that's why you buy one small container and then just refill it from a bigger one

[–] Kojichan@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago

I hate this so much. Seen people do that with other food products too. Disgusting.
