Wolverine's healing abilities have been all over the map, but I'd wager with modern writing he'd likely be able to regrow his bones just fine. There's an article on some of his feats here. I'll mention that his chopped off hand in Age Of Apocalypse has been justified as a special case in a few ways by comic nerds (he didn't have time to wait for it to regrow, and the laser blast melted his metal skeleton to cap off the underlying bone are two common suggestions) along with the fact that Wolverine's powers have been increased by writers over time and that means he's gotten more over the top since the 90s.

It all depends on the writer whims really, but I doubt any writer would leave Logan clawless for too long. The bone claws themselves are a retcon after Magneto sucked all the metal out of Logan's skeleton in the 90s anyway, which shows how important they are for the character.

That second strip goes hard af

His regeneration factor is the reason they were able to coat his bones in adamantium to begin with, and yes; he has been depicted as being able to use bone claws before that happened. It really depends on what medium and timeline. Marvel does a lot of alternate realities, plus all the various movies that existed before the official MCU.

As already covered, he has bone claws after magneto pulled the adamantium from him.

During the comics afterwards, his claws got stomped (iirc by sabertooth), and broken in half.

They regrew fairly quickly, but were deformed for a while. Lost track of that run, but they eventually got put back to his normal.

Overall, Wolvie can regrow anything except the adamantium, and even that isn't off the table since if he had a source for it, his power could conceivably use it to reproduce what was there.

Fwiw, he's been blown up to the point he was nothing but the adamantium and some random bits, then recovered (iirc it was in the MAX days during a crossover with punisher, and daredevil . Might have been someone else involved too, can't recall.

Last I read anything, his healing factor was essentially able to start from a single cell. As long as there's something left, he'll heal. Not quite lobo level where a cell isn't necessary, but I expect something will happen where it gets turned into that at least temporarily. Deadpool is more or less at that level as well; he came back from being burnt to ashes by a lightning strike. So there's precedent for healing factors the go beyond cellular activity alone

...what happens if he gets cut in half, perfectly midline/saggital and the two halves are separated so they can't just heal back into eachother?

Does each side heal into a separate whole Wolverine?

You could pin his left side down onto some kind of reciprocating base that moves adjacent to a razor or saw, and just time the back and forth motion to correlate with his regeneration.

Basically a deli meat cutter, but used to print an army of Logans. Or a literal deli meat slicer depending on how you plan on using the Logans.

Have the comics/movies tackled this yet?

I believe with both deadpool and wolverine they kind of rule that the portion with the dominant part of the brain gets the body and the other portion is supposed to waste away.

Though I do know there was a deadpool comic in which a doctor basically gradually took pieces of deadpool including portions of his head, and freezing them, Deadpool took them out of the freezer and put them in a garbage bag, and they merged into a more evil franken-deadpool.

[–] TipRing@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Evil Deadpool was mostly the same as regular Deadpool though. He just called his Doppelganger "Evil Deadpool". Though I think Evil Deadpool did end up doing something that might hurt a child at one point and since that is the one thing Wade won't do it might be the single distinguishing characteristic between Deadpool and Evil Deadpool.

[–] TheFogan@programming.dev 1 points 1 day ago

well yeah why I used the word "more evil" rather than just evil.

[–] Witchfire@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

He recovered from getting shot down from low earth orbit once, so...

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Yes.

He was also still an incredibly strong fighter and had his enhanced senses. I have an arc in my collection where he fought Cyber for a few issues, a villain whose skin itself was made of adamantium.

[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

They would grow back i reckon

[–] Nemo@slrpnk.net 2 points 2 days ago (3 children)

The claws were added, they weren't part of the original skeleton.

[–] setsneedtofeed@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

The bone claws were a retcon, so since the retcon he's always had them.

[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

In the movie franchise he has bone claws though

[–] Nemo@slrpnk.net 4 points 2 days ago (2 children)

What, for real? I don't remember that at all.

[–] CaliforniaSober@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Yes that plus specific comics, plus main X men lines, plus the total of the X men 97 show.

Basically since 1993 it’s been established that wolverine’s claws were “au naturel”.

Again via X-men 97 the world is watching a tale of Wolverine using bone claws while you currently post otherwise.

[–] just_another_person@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yep. Him and his brother in the US Civil War

[–] Nemo@slrpnk.net -1 points 2 days ago

as opposed to Captain America: Civil War

[–] nocturne@slrpnk.net 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They were originally thought to be part of his gloves. Lots of things changed with Wolverine over the years.

[–] Uruanna@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

In the sense that originally, the writers just threw a guy with claws against the Hulk, and people liked it so Marvel said make more of this guy, but pretty quickly the writers decided that they didn't want to say anyone could pick up the gloves and be Wolverine, so they decided that the claws were part of him and not the gloves. And the Weapon X plot came around with the adamantium. I don't know if any writer actually said that Wolverine didn't have claws at all before the adamantium skeleton? It's just that Marvel kept adding details just as new readers kept asking questions about how it works, and then Marvel suggested that Wolverine's healing factor might mean he was actually very old, and then they said well what did he do before the adamantium skeleton, and bam, there's the bone claws. It's not even a retcon as long as no one said "no claw before the metal bones" before, that's just how writing goes over decades most of the time, new things get piled on.

Not at all well versed in the comics – but he would have certainly broken a bone or gotten his skull bashed in prior to magic metal.

[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

For sure, but his body would put itself back together i believe
