The true tragedy is (or will be shortly) that he never saw any sort of repercussions for the destruction of US government and probably the nation itself, that he orchestrated. The stuffing of the SCOTUS (and the opposite stonewalling of the opposing party's SCOTUS nominees, cynically "too close to an election")... the logjamming of any meaningful legislation over and over and over again, etc.

Just like Drumpf will likely never face any consequences and will die rich, powerful, and with rich corrupt children in power. Life just isn't fair, really -- there is no divine justice.

I mean having him rot in place was probably better than someone with more ability taking his place and being better at his role. Like if he had just died whoever the next fuck in line was could have done a better job at supporting trump

His body being propped alive as a political play is an almost decent ironic punishment.

John Fetterman: What's the big deal?

[–] kkj@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 3 days ago

While that Epstiny Tweet is funny, it's McConnell's constituents who have been brain-dead for ages. McConnell himself was very intelligent. Evil, but intelligent.

Hopefully he suffers in hell

I see the name around but TIL the US has an 84 year-old senator. There's terrorists, assassins, international bad agents, etc. but then there's a simple fall that's by far the highest risk of being life-threatening for a critical role.

There's "unfit for the job", but the technical term is invalidity, where a person's medical or health status disqualify them from performing the duties of the position. Usually things like being alive and able are considered minimum requirements of political positions. Things like a high risk of not being able to perform basic duties due to a woopsie do not fulfill the minimum requirements of political positions.

The biggest problem is Americans keep electing him. While there should be term limits obviously, America is 100% at fault for voting for his old ass over and over.

Blame Kentucky, those fucks are the ones who kept that shit again office for a century or two

There are limited if any medical regulations for politics. With the exception of the executive branch where one person is supposed to be in control, in legislative branches no single senator or rep is required for it to function. A dead senator doesnt stop government function and it is up to the voters and state laws for placement or replacement. The US is a gerontocracy for many reasons, a big one is that seniority matters for political power, e.g. committee appointments, name recognition, etc. Multiple important politicians are in their 70s-90s in part from inertia and in part because of the power of the baby boomer voting bloc.

While I assume the US has some form of medical regulation for political positions

I'm not American, but I've never heard of such a thing. Why would it be a thing? It's an elected position, so the people he represents decided that this ancient humanoid was a better representative of their interest than anyone else.

Being laid off or fired is usually for positions you were hired for, not voted into.

We also have a 92 year old senator. I've heard he's considering seeking reelection in 2 years.

[–] Passerby6497@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

I eagerly await the obituary

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 2 points 3 days ago

[–] cannedtuna@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago
