Comic Strips is a community for those who love comic stories.

Rules
  1. πŸ˜‡ Be Nice!

    • Treat others with respect and dignity. Friendly banter is okay, as long as it is mutual; keyword: friendly.
  2. 🏘️ Community Standards

    • Comics should be a full story, from start to finish, in one post.
    • Posts should be safe and enjoyable by the majority of community members, both here on lemmy.world and other instances.
    • Any comic that would qualify as raunchy, lewd, or otherwise draw unwanted attention by nosy coworkers, spouses, or family members should be tagged as NSFW.
    • Moderators have final say on what and what does not qualify as appropriate. Use common sense, and if need be, err on the side of caution.
  3. 🧬 Keep it Real

    • Comics should be made and posted by real human beans, not by automated means like bots or AI. This is not the community for that sort of thing.
  4. πŸ“½οΈ Credit Where Credit is Due

    • Comics should include the original attribution to the artist(s) involved, and be unmodified. Bonus points if you include a link back to their website. When in doubt, use a reverse image search to try to find the original version. Repeat offenders will have their posts removed, be temporarily banned from posting, or if all else fails, be permanently banned from posting.
    • Attributions include, but are not limited to, watermarks, links, or other text or imagery that artists add to their comics to use for identification purposes. If you find a comic without any such markings, it would be a good idea to see if you can find an original version. If one cannot be found, say so and ask the community for help!
  5. πŸ“‹ Post Formatting

    • Post an image, gallery, or link to a specific comic hosted on another site; e.g., the author's website.
    • Meta posts about the community should be tagged with [Meta] either at the beginning or the end of the post title.
    • When linking to a comic hosted on another site, ensure the link is to the comic itself and not just to the website; e.g.,
      βœ… Correct: https://xkcd.com/386/
      ❌ Incorrect: https://xkcd.com/
  6. πŸ“¬ Post Frequency/SPAM

    • Each user (regardless of instance) may post up to five (5 πŸ–) comics a day. This can be any combination of personal comics you have written yourself, or other author's comics. Any comics exceeding five (5 πŸ–) will be removed.
  7. πŸ΄β€β˜ οΈ Internationalization (i18n)

    • Non-English posts are welcome. Please tag the post title with the original language, and include an English translation in the body of the post; e.g.,
      SΓ, por favor [Spanish/EspaΓ±ol]
  8. 🍿 Moderation

    • We are human, just like most everybody else on Lemmy. If you feel a moderation decision was made in error, you are welcome to reach out to anybody on the moderation team for clarification. Keep in mind that moderation decisions may be final.
    • When reporting posts and/or comments, quote which rule is being broken, and why you feel it broke the rules.
Banned Artists

The following artists are banned from the community.

  1. Jago
  2. Stonetoss
  3. GPrime85

It should be noted that when you make reports, it is your responsibility to provide rational reasoning why something should be removed. Saying it simply breaks community rules is not always good enough.

Web Accessibility

Note: This is not a rule, but a helpful suggestion.

When posting images, you should strive to add alt-text for screen readers to use to describe the image you're posting:

Another helpful thing to do is to provide a transcription of the text in your images, as well as brief descriptions of what's going on. (example)

last time i did it exploded in the washing machine. i had to disassemble it and dig the wet filling out by hand.

that's how i learned it was half sawdust.

[–] Hiro8811@lemmy.world 19 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I think your meant to use a cover and wash the cover

[–] lime@feddit.nu 24 points 2 days ago

unless your cover is lined with a rubber sheet, the pillow will get dirty eventually.

Maybe that was the problem, lol. Never had any problem washing my pillows. I’ve only used basic IKEA pilllows though, not sure about the fancy memory foam or similar types.

Yeah, I don't think you can wash memory foam pillows. But mine comes with a cover and I put another one on top, both of which I can wash easily. Good enough.

this was a cheap ikea pillow. it was also pushing 30. maybe that was it.

When people say β€˜back in my day we slept on sawdust’, but this time it actually turns out to be true

[–] lime@feddit.nu 3 points 1 day ago

if you've ever been at an industrial woodshop, you know that sawdust is hella soft and warm. and itchy. and carcinogenic.

Great trick that not everyone knows!

I have a barley pillow that's a bout 20 years old by now. It is a DEEP yellow, is covered in bloodstains from childhood bloody noses. My fiance and I both prefer it over any other pillow, and so we have shared custody of this thing. A good thick pillowcase covers the war-crimes.

I spent $700 in pillows one year.

sleeping on my original nasty pillow.

I swear they only sell good pillows in cycles and the rest of the time they sell the worst trash and call it a pillow.

[–] einkorn@feddit.org 17 points 2 days ago (2 children)

This type of pillow is mainly for people sleeping on their side. Naturally it doesn't feel right when lying flat on the back.

I have one of those just like in this comic. It has two different heights - the taller one is perfect for sleeping on the side, the flat on is good for sleeping on the back.

Needs getting used to though. I wouldn't go back to a traditional pillow ever again.

This is more important, afaik, you need to use it for a month at least (this fact doesn't help in finding a good pillow, unfortunately)

En contraire, I prefer sleeping on the back on mine. It's got the perfect height for me.

You guys know that you can clean pillows by soaking them in warm water with borax right? Like there is no reason for a pillow to ever look like this. My pillow is easy over 15 years old and still white.

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

gross!

hey everybody! check out the clean freak over here!

[–] RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

We just buy the very simple unfancy ones and just get them every couple years when they invariably become a teeny tiny slice of pillow, crushed into oblivion.

I change my pillowcases often enough they aren't like that scary yellow though

[–] fireweed@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I don't know why everyone doesn't use an allergy cover with their pillows. Keeps pillows clean and dust mites away from face while sleeping.

They make the side of my face very sad :<

[–] njm1314@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The key is to throw the dirty pillow away first so you have no choice but to move on.

[–] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Your neck hates this one simple trick!

[–] TabbsTheBat@pawb.social 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

My pillows much like that, though one of them has also recently acquired a burn mark on it as well lol :3

Maybe he was very fast asleep?

[–] TabbsTheBat@pawb.social 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That's a fun one. I plugged in my phone to charge and put it on my pillow for a moment while I took care of some stuff. Soon after I smelled burning plastic and rechecked all my devices to see what was causing it, only to see my phone charger had melted, and burned my pillow a bit as well =w=

[–] sukhmel@programming.dev 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It's great nothing caught fire

[–] TabbsTheBat@pawb.social 2 points 1 day ago

Yeah, luckily I didn't need to bust out the fire extinguisher or anything. I did also buy a new phone charger after :3

It's hard to find understuffed pillows that don't tilt your head too far forward.

Get a waterproof cover for your pillows, then put your pillowcase over that. I learned the hard way after destroying one of my latex pillows.

[–] Lexam@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Pillow cases usually come with sheets. Also you should be putting sheets on your bed.

I did the same fucking thing with the same fucking pillow. I tried it for weeks and it still sucked!
