Good dental health is linked to heart and brain health.

But... Are you cleaning all sides of your teeth properly? E.g. a regular toothbrush can't get in between teeth πŸ€”

Consult your dentist.

I use different types of cleaners for different parts of my teeth.

Alright question: does anyone have a good floss that doesn't make you feel like you are a huge polluter every time? Each floss I feel terrible tossing the strand in the trash.

I know it's not much by itself, but cumulatively it seems there should be a better way.

You can get floss holders that will reduce the amount of string you use. They’re not perfect but better than the β€˜disposable’ ones.

You can get biodegradable bamboo floss; it's what I use. Still single-use, but it's at least not gonna hang around for a thousand years and deteriorate into micro and nano-plastics.

Depending on what you're willing to spend Id recommend a water flosser. No plastic pollution, can use tap water as a default or if you're fancy do a mouthwash diluted a bit with water. Insanely efficient, and gives a level of mouth clean I have yet to be able to beat. The first time I used mine I was blown away by how much shit came out of my mouth. Anyway, best of luck!

I'm a gross dude who doesn't take good care of my health. I didn't even really know what flossing was for most of my life. The first time I ever went to a dentist was when a molar crumbled in the middle of a BLT while I was at work during my late twenties. So maybe don't take my dental advice ...

... But I use bamboo floss picks repeatedly so long as they are intact, haven't fallen anywhere contaminated, and have no visible debris on them. Makes me feel a lot less wasteful.

Well, I am using it multiple times. Similar as work toothbrush.

I have not been to a dentist

I use beer and dried fish to clean my teeth. I had a few reasons to visit a dentist during my 40 years of life, but those were minor things. So the result is good.

I honestly can't tell if this is serious or not. If it is serious...could you maybe provide detail here? Because I'm not understanding how tf you'd clean your teeth with those 2 items lol

Ohhh... I'm joking. Reason: the OP with a bunch of crazy tools claims that it is a "proper" way. While I suspect the OP is either slightly crazy or just lost "genetic lottery" and really needs more serious approach to keep his teeth healthy.

My teeth are super close together, I got a mouth full of fuckin Chiclets that cut apart pretty much any floss that can get in there. Any recommendations?

Water flosser? Sucks to have yet another appliance when tiny box of string works for most people but they are effective.

God I just know I'd be a messy fucker with one of those... Hmm

[–] wyldrstallyns@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

FWIW, they make terrible squirt guns.

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 2 points 1 week ago (2 children)

It wasn't always so... My childhood largely featured an arms race of increasingly ridiculous squirt guns that culminated in some dickhead pissing in a backpack water tank and blasting everyone with a double-barreled multi-nozzled monstrosity.

I used to have really bad taste in friends.

Hey, now, Wakko & Dot're the bomb. πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«πŸ₯°

Quotable moment and I still don't like you,

[–] Atom@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Same. My teeth cut the floss and I often need to use bite pressure to force a floss pick in. But then I often rip the floss pick if they are cheap or thin, which most are.

I have had good luck with these. I try to minimize cost and waste so I rinse and re-use them a few times times so I'm not throwing two away every single day.

Nice one, too bad it's US only!

BTW side note as a fellow tight teeth person: I've started asking hygenists not to floss my teeth during the cleaning. Inevitably they smash the shit out of my gums trying to force their floss between my teeth.
