It was... ok.
Maybe I've just been watching too many vfx breakdowns on YouTube, but I found them disappointing in this. The animals and the car / train scene in particular.

Is this really was just a modernized re-telling of Close Encounters of the Third Kind, except not as good?
No. The opposite does. We're too dumb to succeed, so when we unavoidably off ourselves, no one would be there to pick up the slack.
