Ron Widen is cool, he was in favor of title 2 net neutrality, he's against NSA spying and from what I understand he realizes that age verification is a cybersecurity risk to everyone

[–] crank0271@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago (5 children)

And... what about that other guy?

[–] starblursd@lemmy.zip 49 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

The other guy is unfortunately ted cruz

[–] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

I'm not familiar. Is he the guy who fucked off to Cancun while Texas went without power during a huge winter storm?

[–] rainwall@piefed.social 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Dont worry, he came back the day after his sloth and cowardess became an international news story and handed out bottled water from a pickup truck, instead of coordinating with the state/fed/volunteer orgs to actually help people.

Those dozens of bottle of water surely fixed everything.

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 weeks ago

Remember when he read Green Eggs And Ham on the Senate Floor, and failed to understand that the point of the book was he LIKED the green eggs at the end?

[–] starblursd@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 weeks ago

Ted "when things go bad in my state I go on a" Cruz

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Nah he's the senator who could be murdered at work and the senate wouldn't convict the killer

[–] NocturnalMorning@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

That could be a lot of them. Doesn't really narrow it down.

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Ah, but at least he's really human!

[–] nyan@lemmy.cafe 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Are we sure? Has anyone actually checked to make sure he isn't a lizardman from inside the hollow Earth, all dressed up in a rubber human suit? I mean, sure, he isn't an LLM, but there are so many other possibilities!

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 4 points 2 weeks ago

No, because he's the Zodiac Killer.

[–] Bishma@discuss.tchncs.de 12 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

Like most Shakespeare villains, Ted Cruz has a single redeeming quality. And it's that he both understands and vehemently supports free speech.

[–] KingKong33@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Then why does he support the most pro censorship regime in US history? He doesn't support free speech. He supports fascist speech. He's an American traitor, along with the rest of that regime.

[–] JTskulk@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Because he's also a cuckold with a humiliation fetish. Trump called his wife ugly and then Cruz sucked his dick.

[–] QueenHawlSera@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 weeks ago

Are you sure it's not like Elon's free speech where dropping the Hard R is okay, but saying Cisgender isn't?

[–] Akh@lemmy.world 10 points 2 weeks ago

He protects pedophiles

[–] ThatGuyNamedZeus@feddit.org 6 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

If he's working with Ron Widen it means Ted Cruz has the correct position on free speech.

Do you have any idea how many people on the internet make fun of Ted Cruz? Have you ever heard him say those people should be banned or censored?

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I guess a broken clock and all that.

Iirc he was also against the bullshit PMTA process the FDA shoved on the vaping industry.

[–] ThatGuyNamedZeus@feddit.org 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

it's better to find common ground with your peers and then to work with them to make life better for everyone.

If Ted Cruz is in favor of free speech, so you can work with him on free speech issues to help everyone of all colors and creeds

And he really is in favor of free speech. He's never tried to shut down any of his critics. People send him all kinds of nasty things on twitter and he doesn't even block any of them.

[–] edible_funk@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Why would he block it, he gets off on it. He's got this same little grin every time he's confronted about an awful thing he did.

[–] edible_funk@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Raphael Cruz has a very obvious shame and humiliation kink, why would he complain? He gets to use the public to get his rocks.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 4 points 2 weeks ago

You mean the senator in the state that puts destructive as shit data centres wherever and is helping palantir? Yeah he’s super anti censorship.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 9 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Ron Wyden co-authored Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act in 1996, which protects internet platforms from being held liable for user-generated content. It's a big reason that the internet exploded in popularity. We may need to revisit and increase regulation since seeing what social media became, but he's had a pretty great track record.

[–] ThatGuyNamedZeus@feddit.org 14 points 2 weeks ago

Section 230 is an absolutely vital regulation that allows the internet to be free, getting rid of it would be horrible

[–] artyom@piefed.social 6 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)
[–] brianary@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 weeks ago

Also lots of thorough examination of 230s importance here: https://www.techdirt.com/tag/section-230/

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 2 weeks ago

EFF is the only org where I'd throw away any job to join them.

[–] teyrnon@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 weeks ago

He also supports israel and as soon as last summer voted to send another shipment of assault rifles to Israeal that they have been handing out to settlers in the west bank.

Wyden is not that good.

[–] KingKong33@lemmy.ml 14 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Ted Cruz bent the knee to Trump and sucked the dick of the most pro-censorship regime in the history of the United States. He's completely unqualified to fight censorship, and I wouldn't trust a single thing that came out of that piece of shits mouth.

[–] ExperiencedWinter@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

He doesn't mean a single thing he says, so why would anyone trust him? https://idonotlikethatmantedcruz.com/

[–] KingKong33@lemmy.ml 0 points 2 weeks ago

Idk, I said I wouldn't. Why are you asking me?

[–] baines@piefed.social 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

i assumed this article was about his fighting for censorship

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

I'm struggling to figure out Cruz's angle on this. I know he is a giant POS with zero redeeming qualities so something is up here.

[–] IratePirate@feddit.org 9 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

I do not like that man Ted Cruz
That's why this news gets me confused
Because I'm used to rarely see
Him on the right side of history.
And so, in spite of this new stunt
That man Ted Cruz may still be a cunt.

[–] edible_funk@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

A cunt, you say? I disagree

And before you hold your breath

Let me be clear; I'm saying he

Lacks the warmth and depth

[–] IratePirate@feddit.org 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

A cunt, I see, he may not be
But what, I ask, could then be he?
He's soft, so he can't be a dick,
Not sociable, hence he's no pig,
No fucker (I don't know - does he?)
No arse - he lacks utility.
There's no good name, but don't you fret -
For now let us just call him Ted.

[–] edible_funk@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Ted Cancun Cruz, the zodiac's son

When calling him names, why limit to one?

Even insult his wife and lyin Ted

Will come to your defense instead!

He gets off on you telling him go to hell,

Always point out his real name's Raphael

Everyone hates him as is often said

But as for me I just call him fuckhead.

[–] Test_Tickles@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

He never intended for it to pass. He just wants to be able to say that he was on the popular side of an issue. Don't forget, he wants to be president more than anything in the world, so everything he does is about the next presidential election.

[–] applebusch@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 2 weeks ago

its about uncensoring hate speech im sure, so they can go on tv and spew their vitriol and sue if their hate vomit isn't aired or aired in full or some shit. they want to be able to go on the news and openly call for killing brown people and trans people. its obvious nazi shit. tolerate the intolerable under the guise of "free speech".

[–] philodendron 2 points 2 weeks ago

Maybe he’s trying to win conservative brownie points by fighting the ‘Biden vaccine agenda’. He’d really be kicking a dead horse with that but…please clap

[–] floquant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Can American politicians focus on actual policy at least half as much as they do to find zinger acronyms for their bill names?

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 2 weeks ago

Ted Cruz can't because he has only culture war and lies. Ron Wyden has real experience drafting laws and policy (Section 230). Wyden needed a republican turd to join up for a bi-partisan bill. He found a sucker who put his name on it (for all the wrong reasons, but right-wing dipshits don't look into anything, so it still works). Sometimes, you take what you can get to advance your cause.

Critics may chastise me for pulling all my pro-Wyden links from a single source (TechDirt). You can find the same info on his policies pretty much anywhere. I just like TechDirt's tone in calling things what they are. Any other serious (as in, not right-wing propaganda) reporters will agree on the facts of what he's done, but they are often coy / timid about calling out those acting in bad faith.

You know what you need to get a bill through? Bi-partisanship. We had it for the Epstein Files Transparency Act. Not that it did all that much in the long run, but at least it passed. You think we're gonna pass laws to (attempt to) hold this admin accountable without a repub putting their name on it? Fat chance. Use one of the dumb idiots to launder your message for their audience. Again, they're too stupid / thoughtless / disinterested to actually look into anything. It's a win.
