Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

I'm disappointed that there is not a report option called "OP is a fucking moron."

You can leave a note in the other category.

I can make a custom report through the app: Boost for Lemmy.

Maybe next time include what the hell you're talking about, and don't expect people to agree with outlandish assumptions.

[–] Absolute_Slayer@lemmy.world -5 points 4 days ago (3 children)

If you've spent any time in those specific forums, you'd know exactly what I'm talking about. It’s a classic case of people preferring a tragedy that fits their narrative over a peaceful outcome that doesn't."

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

Right, but you didn't actually mention what those specific forums are.

This topic is a little niche for showerthoughts tbh.

What specific forums?

[–] ptz@dubvee.org 7 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, I just avoid all communities that start with "Ban" or "Fuck". Life is much less irritating that way.

[–] Absolute_Slayer@lemmy.world -4 points 4 days ago

Smart move. It's wild how much more peaceful the internet gets when you actively filter out the professional haters.

The narrative that pit bulls kill more people than any other dog breed? The numbers don't lie.

[–] Absolute_Slayer@lemmy.world -4 points 4 days ago (3 children)

The numbers might not lie, but neither does the reaction. If someone is genuinely disappointed that a tragedy didn't happen, their priority isn't safety it's validation.

What kind of people are you hanging around that are upset when dogs don't attack people? I've never experienced this phenomenon

[–] velma@lemmy.blahaj.zone -1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

People who make hating pitbulls a personality trait.

They're a little like the online childfree communities. They're rabid about their hatred.

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

You mean people who have been attacked or have seen pitbull attacks and are now traumatized and expect the worst!?

I bet rape victims who are scared of men piss you off too.

[–] velma@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

No, you’re misunderstanding. I’m talking specifically about communities that are united by their blind hatred of pit bulls. They’re not all victims of dog attacks and it’s disgusting of you to bring rape into this.

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

You are making assumptions that people don't have a reason to dislike or hate pitbulls. I personally know seven people who have permanent facial disfigurations from pitbull bites.

I grew up with a pitbull and I would never recommend the breed to anyone. While I am not a hater, I certainly don't like them even if I loved the one we had. I cringe when I see a child walking around with a pitbull on a rope (common occurrence) because I know there is no way that they can control that animal.

So back to my point, if someone hates on pitbulls because they or someone they know has been attacked (common occurrence) by a pitbull they have every right to dislike or even hate them.

Are you the kind of person who says rape victims are wrong for distrusting men? No, but you are the type of person who says people are wrong for hating pitbulls when they have probably had a bad experience with them or know someone who has.

[–] velma@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

No, I’m taking about online hate groups, not your average person who dislikes the breed.

You’re putting an awful lot of words in my mouth. Do you run a Facebook group or subreddit dedicated to this topic?

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Dude, I know people who have been attacked. I grew up poor and I have seen a ton of shit people with their garbage rage trained pitbulls. Extremely common for drugs dealers to have this breed to protect their property. Gangster also love this breed for its aggressive and intimidating nature.

Have you ever seen a pitbull maul an animal or human? I have and it is scary as shit. The breed should be banned honestly. I find you insinuating I am some anti-pitbull activist when I am speaking from experience a little ridiculous.

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

It sounds like you specifically hang out in shitty places with shitty people. The solution is to not do that.

Why’d you reply with AI?

Zip it, dippy.
