Disney ran out of ~~bribe~~ lobbying money?

[-] tacosanonymous@lemm.ee 22 points 10 months ago

No. The specific depictions going into pd are very narrowly focused.

[-] gibmiser@lemmy.world 32 points 10 months ago

Well I for one can't wait to purchase the first porno featuring the named characters steamboat willie taking it up the bum from Tigger while Minnie cries.

[-] tacosanonymous@lemm.ee 11 points 10 months ago

While shirtless Pooh watches.

Christopher Robin, what exactly is "Rule 34"?

Well, I'm told it means, "Going along, jerking to all the things you can conceive of, and not bothering."

[-] 1847953620@lemmy.world 1 points 10 months ago

"oh, bother"

[-] ram@feddit.nl 2 points 10 months ago

You'll have to keep waiting, all disney characters are trademarked.

[-] hark@lemmy.world 2 points 10 months ago

Then why did they bother extending copyright in the 90s?

[-] Deceptichum@kbin.social 3 points 10 months ago

They can’t keep extending it indefinitely.

[-] hark@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

The stopping point is completely arbitrary. You could've also said the same about the 90s copyright extension.

This YouTube video show some screenplay from Mouse, an upcoming noir based FPS game. The game will take full advantage of the public's right to reuse1920s era cartoons, particularly Steam Boat Willy, in new and innovative ways.

Nothing in this would be a copyright violation of Disney.

[-] dQw4w9WgXcQ@lemm.ee 1 points 10 months ago

Kinda reminds me of cuphead. Love it

[-] kurwa@lemmy.world 0 points 10 months ago

Oh man that looks amazing.

[-] LKPU26@lemmy.ml 20 points 10 months ago

I read an article speculating that the addition of a few Steamboat Willie frames to the introduction video played on modern Disney movies was to try and push this from copyright protection into trademark protection.

Trademark protection does not expire.

I didn't know Winnie the Pooh was already public domain and that there is a horror movie about him made already? I got to watch that

[-] Son_of_dad@lemmy.world 11 points 10 months ago

It's got a 3% on rotten tomatoes, I'm intrigued about how bad it is

[-] bugieman@lemmy.world 7 points 10 months ago

It's pretty bad, and not in a 'so bad it's good' kinda way... It's just bad

[-] fsxylo@sh.itjust.works 5 points 10 months ago

I read the plot synopsis on Wikipedia and I still want a refund.

[-] Veraxus@kbin.social 4 points 10 months ago

It is unwatchable. Down there with Rob Zombie’s Munsters movie. Don’t do it.

[-] CaptnNMorgan@reddthat.com 0 points 10 months ago

It's worth watching once if you grew up with Winnie

[-] LifeOfChance@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

It's honestly a good laugh while saying "what the fuck am I watching" they're working on the second one which introduces Tigger. Don't go into it with high expectations go into it knowing they're doing it for fun and flipping off disney.

[-] NewPerspective@lemmy.world 13 points 10 months ago

I think it was MatPat on YouTube who said that Disney knows this and included that specific Mickey in their trademark as a way to protect it under different laws.

[-] Dangdoggo@kbin.social 7 points 10 months ago

Exactly right. They are attempting to incorporate it into their actual branding iconography so that they can argue it's trademark.

[-] FoundTheVegan@kbin.social 4 points 10 months ago

Yup! Copyright and trademark are different things and Disney lawyers have already insulated the company. Yes it will technically enter public domain, but nothing will actually change.

[-] MimicJar@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

Jokes on Disney, I'm making my porno about Captain Pete, who drives his steamboat down the river, picking up floozies and spitting tobacco up their butts.

(We are all making porn right? That's the plan.)

[-] Ilovethebomb@lemm.ee -4 points 10 months ago

I actually think this is a good way to do things, the original work becomes public domain and can be freely reproduced, but people can't, for example, make NSFW versions of the work.

Or just a conga line of shitty Sherlock Holmes adaptations.

[-] Ddhuud@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago

Remember Sega's old racing game Daytona near the 2000's

TIME EXTENSION!

[-] realcaseyrollins@narwhal.city 0 points 10 months ago

Aren't they just gonna ask to have the copyrights extended again?
