Oi, leave the wildlife alone.

[–] GraniteM@lemmy.world 3 points 5 hours ago

Is bear okay?! :<

[–] NottaLottaOcelot@lemmy.ca 2 points 6 hours ago

Dukie does “come” a hell of a lot better than my dog. Mine would be off into the sunset trying to play with that bear until the end of her days

[–] BeardededSquidward@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

The black bear was probably as surprised and why it kept running.

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 6 points 9 hours ago

Especially when he yelled. That thing went the opposite direction. He didn't like that cyclist or the dog anymore than they liked him.

[–] pomegranatefern@sh.itjust.works 9 points 16 hours ago

Dog: I got this! I got this! Person: you ABSOLUTELY DO NOT GOT THIS, OH MY GOD

[–] too_high_for_this@lemmy.world 4 points 16 hours ago

if not friend, why friend shaped?

Might be a fixie, i.e. the brakes are just pedaling backwards

[–] Resonosity@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 14 hours ago

Holy shit bro!!!

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 3 points 21 hours ago (3 children)

This is why I get so upset about people who keep their pets off-leash in public. "BuT it'S DanGeroUs tO ride a biKe With A doG on Its LeAD." Yeah, but what about when your off-leash dog encounters someone's off-leash bear and it outpaces you on a mountain bike. Now you're gonna go home and question if you're a shitty bicyclist, and those are the scars that'll never heal.

[–] guy@piefed.social 2 points 4 hours ago

someone’s off-leash bear lmao

[–] HereIAm@lemmy.world 5 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

You train recall? It's like the first thing you want to train, and arguably the only mandatory thing you need to teach a dog. Notice how the collie in the video came back as soon as it was called?

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

I seriously thought that my part about an "off-leash bear" would be indicator enough that my comment was sarcasm, but obviously not. I think I buried it too deep in too long of a joke.

[–] HereIAm@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

I did think the off-leash bear part was pretty funny. But there are many (specifically Americans) who think it's crazy to let a dog off the lead under any circumstance.

[–] greedytacothief@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Is this sarcasm? That's a black bear, generally safe, you can tell it's not protecting it's babies because it ran away from the dog. Also I live in a very rural area and I've only ever seen a black bear once on trails. Meanwhile I've almost run over a dog not on a leash several times, I can't imagine how difficult riding with a leashed dog would be.

[–] fartographer@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, it's sarcasm. Hence the "off-leash bear" and that a bear outpacing you would cause emotional damage. But it seems I did a pretty shitty job of making a joke.

Ah good, I'm also not that good at picking up sarcasm on the Internet...

[–] Mongostein@lemmy.ca 21 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That scream has Wilhelm potential

[–] Raiderkev@lemmy.world 7 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

I like to think of ever in that situation, I would belt out a death metal level roar to try and scare the bear. In reality, I feel like I would sound like this guy.

[–] laranis@lemmy.zip 3 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Out for a run one early morning, still dark, and I hear something running up behind me. No time to think I turned around, made myself big, arms spread out and high, and yelled as deep and as loud as I could. That poor Yorkie turned around and yipped all the way back to its house where I could see the owner on the porch shaking her head at me.

So, you might surprise yourself. I certainly did.

[–] SethTaylor@lemmy.world 2 points 18 hours ago

I got attacked by herding dogs while hiking. I have a phobia of dogs but also had pepper spray and a taser on me. I surprised myself by not shitting my pants and instead making noise with the very loud taser until their lazy-ass owner came to bring them back to the herd they abandoned to fuck with me

[–] HumanOnEarth@lemmy.ca 47 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That dog saw it way before he did. Good boy.

[–] lurch@sh.itjust.works 57 points 1 day ago (2 children)

dog was about to herd that weird shaped sheep

he actually did by sending him to the second weird looking sheep on wheels

[–] TwoBeeSan@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

Saw those ears like ooooo new thing to herd

[–] RumAndCreole@lemmy.world 43 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Lucky it was a black bear.

[–] somethingsnappy@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

No shit. And for half a second I thought the dog was a cub.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works -3 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

I mean... If he was angry or hungry it wouldn't be lucky at all.

They can outrun his bike easily, and you can't play dead with them.

It was probably lucky that this was an area where people interact with bears often. They aren't too dangerous usually in areas like that because they know to fear people.

[–] MonkRome@lemmy.world 11 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago) (2 children)

In the last 126 years there was only 61 possible legitimate cases of an american black bear killing a human, and even some of those cases have been called into question. American black bears are some of the most passive animals, they hate confrontation and will basically always flee. Even if hungry and even if their babies are in danger. The scariest thing they will do is bluff charge while vocalizing and the run off.

[–] oxideseven@lemmy.ca 7 points 14 hours ago

This is the correct info.

[–] CaptSneeze@lemmy.world 1 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

What’s their record with dogs?

[–] MonkRome@lemmy.world 3 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

I seriously doubt anyone keeps records of dog deaths like they do humans. But bear hunters use dogs to hunt them because they scare and corner them, by running them up a tree. American black bears are afraid of everything.

[–] BillyClark@piefed.social 15 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I one time made a noise like that guy made when he saw the bear. In my case, a car sped through a crosswalk while I was walking through it. (The car did not end up hitting and killing me.)

[–] oxideseven@lemmy.ca 3 points 14 hours ago

You scared the car with your roar.

[–] SethTaylor@lemmy.world 4 points 18 hours ago

The car did not end up hitting and killing me

Liar

[–] Viceversa@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The car did not end up hitting and killing me

Are you sure?

[–] SeductiveTortoise@piefed.social 16 points 1 day ago (2 children)

This being hell would explain a lot.

[–] BillyClark@piefed.social 5 points 1 day ago

Imagine you were being punished because you were living in my hell.

[–] troglodytis@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

So here we are

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

Oh my god! Everything about this video is pure chaos at it's finest.

[–] Texas_Hangover@lemmy.radio 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I swear I thought I was watching CJ catch the train...

[–] h54@programming.dev 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That mission can go to hell!

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 2 points 18 hours ago

It gets easier when you do more of the shooting yourself and don't rely on Smoke so much. Turns out all you had to do was catch the train AND shoot people on a moving train.

Also, there are some missions in that game that are sensitive to your framerate I believe. I know Stowaway was one, but I'm not sure if it also affects this one (due to the whole thing where being on top of a moving vehicle in San Andreas can make an NPC's hitbox move... less than smoothly).
