Come to Quark’s, Quark’s is Fun!

General off-topic chat for the crew of startrek.website. Trek-adjacent discussions, other sci-fi television, navigating the Fediverse, server meta (within reason), selling expired cases of Yamok sauce, it’s all fair game.

I find that I am less and less willing to invest enthusiasm in American productions as they don’t get enough commitment from their streamers to make it worth it.

Apple seems to be make two season commitments for most shows, but generally they are following the self-destructive pattern of Syfy. There’s only so many times one can be burned.

It's offensive, considering how The Office built Netflix. None of these services have figured out, if it deserves a second season, you can just keep going, and the audience will be there. Offer a lower budget if it makes you feel better. Just let the goddamn thing happen.

Not aided by the number of shows that apparently think it's still 1999 and a good cliffhanger will ensure another season, meaning absolutely nobody's happy.

I'm with you, but at the same time I never had too much hope for this one so this doesn't come as a huge shock. The days of streaming services paying tons of money for prestige TV are largely behind us.

And sci-fi is the first against the wall.

Ugh sadly that's so true.

Can’t have decent tv shows. Who would want that?

After SFA Season 2 finishes I'm quitting television.

According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, Amazon execs were concerned that Gero’s take on the series would not have broad appeal beyond the franchise’s already dedicated fanbase.

Ahh the 'ol show writing by focus group approach.

Man, ngl, I thought having Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich associated with this project was absolutely bizarre, given that their movies and books bore only a passing resemblance to the juggernaut that Stargate became and they were reportedly not happy with the direction it took.

I like Joe Malozzi a lot, but I was not convinced he had a lot of say in things.

I can't say I'm unhappy about this imploding. I was pretty sure it was going to suck. I hope they manage to get it off the ground with someone who truly gives a shit, but I have no idea who that might be. Henry Cavill? If only.

Bummer. Hope someone else picks it up.

Amazon MGM could revisit Stargate with another showrunner — possibly someone without history with the existing franchise who would “give it a fresh perspective,” according to Deadline.

You won't want it.

They want the cw version, but they'll cancel it when nobody likes it and they'll say I guess no one wants stargate.

I agree with the sentiment, but Amazon owns the license outright since they bought MGM, so I wouldn't count on it.
