it was during a time period where nvidia bought out aegia and was pressuring devs to use physx. the glass shattering physics was one of its effects, as it was easier to show off your gpus performance by gimping competition at the time.

that's why there was a short window where the 5090 was slower than the 980ti. nvidia was nerfing future nvidia because at the time, nvidia wanted to stop supporting physx on latest gpus

Max Payne 2 was a much better experience in most ways. I'm not really sure what the appeal of Max Payne 3 is tbh.

2 was a masterpiece! 1 was almost as good. I'm not a fan of 3

Probably that it has some of the best quotes in the series!

"So I guess I'd become what they wanted me to be: A killer. Some rent-a-clown with a gun who puts holes in other bad guys. Well, that's what they had paid for, so in the end, that's what they got. Say what you want about about americans, but we understand capitalism: You buy yourself a product and you get what you paid for, and these chumps had paid for some angry gringo without the sensibilities to know right from wrong."

"There I was about to execute this poor bastard like some dime-store Angel of Death, when I realised, they were correct. I wouldn't know right from wrong if one of them was helping the poor and the other one was banging my sister."

One and two where much better. They were Max Payne games.

The third is just a rockstar shooter, no soul or interesting story. It's ok for what it is, but it's no Max Payne game.

I couldn't get through the hand-holding and constant interruptions during what I think may have been the first level. There are enemies you can't kill until the cut scenes and basically no freedom of movement at all. No idea how long I played for but it wasn't long.

Same experience here. That's why I say there are two Max Payne games and a reskinned Virtua Cop imposter.

I should play the first 2 as well!

Loved the game and might even buy it again one day just to replay it on Steam Deck, but only if it comes on GOG

I need to try 1 again and then 2.

I bloody loved 1 but I was too young to appreciate the themes. Dead wife or something, taking drugs so I know hes a bad guy because drugs are bad was about my level of understanding because I was a small child.

But god damn did I love diving forward and doing bullet time.

the gameplay is nice and fun but there is an issue. the number of people at the end killed by max is much much over bruce villis in die hard 2. ive read that on a forum somewhere and agreed on the body count being preposterous..
