I've had beers, ciders, and other alcohol before (Kahlua is great on ice cream). This was my first Smirnoff Ice (grape, if that matters). Why would I vomit up 3 hours later? It was just one bottle. Does SI just disagree with some folks?

Since I know you'll worry, I feel much better for having emptied my stomach. I know I should have grabbed a towel as soon as I felt ill, but at least it's my mess to deal with now. And my area carpet is washable and fits in the washing machine.

I'm not tempting fate and I've told my partner that the rest of the six pack is all his.

Smirnoff ice is what I drink when I want to drink something lighter than a beer. Unless you usually can't handle one beer I don't think it's the alcohol.

Must be some ingredients you're allergic to, or you got a light heatstroke or something

My only thought was that maybe the zero calorie ones use invert sugars, as those will mess up my system badly.

But in that case it isn't usually vomit but the other way.

Just glad you're feeling better after the purge!

Ginger tea helps with nausea. Yogi brand is pretty damn good.

Sucks that it happened, but glad to know you’re doing okay. Rough lesson learned. 😅

Did you eat or drink anything else in the several hours before you were sick?

Possibly, there's nothing wrong with the booze, just something else bad you ate.

I did, but I made the same meal from the same ingredients the next day with no repercussions. (Turkey, cornbread stuffing, cranberry sauce from a can, handful of cherry tomatoes)

I should say the SI wasn't my cup of tea anyway, so I'm not fussed to not have more of it.

Sugary drinks and alcohol can be rough on the stomach. Your body may have just made a calculation that producing the enzymes and everything to process this unholy beverage just wasn't worth it.

Smirnoff Ice is just kind of gross and unpalatable in general. Like to the point where “icing” someone is a frat-tier prank where you hide one and whoever finds it has to drink it.

As an “alchopop” I don’t think it has enough to mess with the stomach like that, although alcohol can be very variable in how it impacts you. Might have been the Smirnoff, might have just been your stomach getting upset for no reason (this will happen as you get older with or without alcohol, although obviously alcohol makes it much worse)

The good news, op, is that you are not missing much by never having a Smirnoff ice ever again if you don't want to.

I've also had cheap alcoholic drinks (especially the sugary ones) where I felt sick after, more than from the alcohol.

As always, water is your friend in these situations. And rest. Glad you're feeling better now

Hate to say it but I think you're pregnant.

[–] smh@slrpnk.net 1 points 5 days ago

🙅That is vanishingly unlikely for multiple reasons.

Have you specifically had smirnoff before? Or any vodka for that matter?

My mom is allergic to vodka, and she gets very ill if she accidently has any. Any other alcohol is fine, only vodka causes issues.

Could just be that simple.

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 2 points 5 days ago

That's curious about your mother. I'm pretty sure she would have to be allergic to one (or more) of the ingredients used to make the vodka, which would typically be some type of grain. Otherwise she would be allergic to (more likely, intolerant of) anything containing ethanol.

[–] smh@slrpnk.net 1 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I've had vodka before, but never Smirnoff and never a whole bottle's worth, just minis/nips, mixed into other things. So maybe it's a quantity thing. I'll watch out for vodka. Thank you.

I don't think Ice contains any vodka, it's a malt beverage (similar to an intentionally flavorless beer with artificial flavors added)

[–] QualifiedKitten@discuss.online 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I think the recipe varies depending on what country you're in. This listing in Canada, says "premium vodka beverage", while in the US, it's a malt beverage.

Interesting, love my shitty American overlords!

[–] smh@slrpnk.net 1 points 6 days ago

Oh, you're right.

Smirnoff Ice is the same thing as Zima, but with flavors. It's a malt liquor, or Clearmalt as Zima is called. It's basically clear beer. The added ingredients could be what made you ill. If you try Zima you may have the same reaction, if not, it was the additives in Smirnoff.

Its not you. They put something foul on that stuff. I don't know what it is, but ven a few oz of this will reliably make me feel unwell.
