What on my personal experience has harmed my sleep the most is not sharing my bed with someone else.

Outer blinds are a gamechanger.

Helps with summer heat, too.

These should be mandatory everywhere.

I regret not bringing my curtains and curtain rod when I moved. There is a light right outside my bedroom window and the shitty venetian blinds installed by the landlord fucking suck ass.

I would love those but I have blinds and am all thumbs with DIY. I have a sleeping mask and it works pretty good.

You don’t need DIY fingers for basic blackout curtains.

As long as the blinds aren’t completely in the way, a tension rod (spring loaded curtain rod) is cheap and just slips into place wherever you need to fit it.

The blackout curtains/sun block curtains I've recently seen use sticky tape and velcro to block out virtually all light. I've done it, but you have to have someone somewhat tall (I'm 5'11) to get the corners. They use a solid block of fabric, not blinds, to block out everything.
