When will humans learn?!

20 years from now people will just be buying robot bears due to record robot wolf attacks...

We need to stop the cycle of Japanese attack robots based on animals.

Today, we, as humanity, have swallowed a fly. I don't know why we swallowed a fly. Perhaps, we'll die?

[–] givesomefucks@lemmy.world 7 points 3 months ago

RFK Jr was built for this mission...

  1. Fly

  2. Frog

  3. ?

  4. Racoon penis (step four is always racoon penis)

Perhaps, we'll die?

[–] hume_lemmy@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 months ago

I dunno, if you're gonna go, it's certainly a damned cool way to do it...

[–] Photonic@lemmy.world 41 points 3 months ago (2 children)

That thing is nightmare material

[–] Get_Off_My_WLAN@fedia.io 14 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I prefer the threat of a potential bear attack over the guaranteed nightmare of having this thing around all the time.

[–] Luccus@feddit.org 6 points 3 months ago

But it's not all robot wolves!

Why is she choosing the bear over the robot wolf that makes no sense. The bear is clearly stronger!

(just in case)

[–] teft@piefed.social 20 points 3 months ago (2 children)

This is just going to naturally select for bears that can take down a terminator. Do we really want that?

[–] brsrklf@jlai.lu 11 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Well, we need a defence against terminators.

[–] ksh@aussie.zone 4 points 3 months ago

We don’t have terminators but we have replaced Bob Ross

[–] foggy@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Or worse, bear-proof robot dogs...

[–] Tylerdurdon@lemmy.world 13 points 3 months ago (2 children)

I just wanted to see what this thing looks like and does.

It's... Interesting.

[–] brsrklf@jlai.lu 7 points 3 months ago

Oh. I thought it could walk/run, which would have been 200% scarier (and totally overkill, surely).

Turns out that in action the thing looks more like Curiosity with a creepy furby on top of it.

[–] Landless2029@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago

Its a fancy scarecrow.

i'm amazed that there are still so much bears in Japan, and that they kill people on a regular basis, and that the japaneze society is ok about that.

If a single death ocurred in my country because of a single wild animal, the whole species would be eradicated by both civilians and the government working in concert. I've even heard about people in my country cutting tons of trees overnight because one motorbike smashed on one tree and "it was the trees' fault" (sic)

[–] SkunkWorkz@lemmy.world 5 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

In my country wolves have returned and within a few years people want to eradicate them because they kill sheep. Because these farmers are too stingy or too stupid to buy a kangal shepherd dog that protects the herd. Basically in my country people see nature as something that is purely there for the enjoyment of humans. Just glorified city parks. The moment they face the harsh realities of nature they want to exterminate it.

Those bears are living in mountainous areas with forest cover. One of the causes of the bear population boom was the declining number of hunters in those areas. The Japanese government had allocated 3.4 billion yen (around 21 million US dollars) for "bear countermeasures" in 2025. They also had already deployed soldiers to put traps and allowed the police to shoot and kill bears when necessary.

wait until they hear about mosquitoes

[–] lemmysquid459@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 months ago

You just made my fucking night

[–] Gigdragon@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I wish I live where you do. Here in the USA, we have an escalating boar problem and it is just ignored. But then again, it's a capitalist country.

[–] miellaby@jlai.lu 1 points 2 months ago

Or do it the other way : Too many boars ? reintroduce apex predators

Did we learn nothing from Horizon!? Quick, someone get Aloy

[–] dejected_warp_core@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Of course Japan decided to use robots. But why not use a big dog instead? Maybe it's a humanitarian concern since they'd be facing off with bears...

:: looks at image from article ::

Oh. It's a fucking robot yokai-cyber-demon-dog: pure nightmare fuel. They're clearly on to something here.

[–] AeonFelis@lemmy.world 3 points 3 months ago

You can't just tell the Japanese to not use robots.

Yeah, I’m no expert on bear psychology… But if I were a bear and that thing came ripping across a field at me with glowing red eyes and sound effects, I probably wouldn’t return any time soon.

The headline flows nicely with the whole "Is this reality, or just a very stressful fever dream?" vibe that is 2026.
