Brain: Did you do the thing with lying down unconscious for a minimum of seven hours?

[–] Alexstarfire@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago

Fuck, I knew I forgot something.

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 14 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Only seven? Your brain sure doesn’t ask a lot.

it's different for everyone. for me it's 6-8 hours, but some days i sleep all day long

And once you hit 9 you've gone too far and are back to unhappiness

[–] RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

This is so cruel. What do you mean I can over do sleep??? It's sleep!!!

I find mine only gives me the happy chemical when I'm eating junk food and playing copious amounts of video games. It's really inconvenient to deal with.

Mine demands oldtime crpgs, but not those I have already played. 😓

It's like upgrading the PC but keeping Windows installed.

The thing with the moving and sweating always works for me. Diet doesn't make so much of a difference as far as I can tell but miss exercise for a few days & I am a mess. Laying down under the bright fucker up there (and man, it is a BRIGHT fucker down here) does help if I am sick & can't exercise. Not as good though

Seconding it. When I'm really out of shape it can take a few weeks for me to start feeling better, but it always happens and I kick myself for letting myself get out of shape and miserable.

Anyone who thinks they're the exception do it at a reasonable pace and suck it up for a month. If you hate the activity but like how you feel when you aren't doing it, try a different one. Running sucked for me, but it turns out once I'm in proper shape I love being on a bicycle.

because you're habituated to it.

if you never exercised, your feelings would be the inverse.

[–] RBWells@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

It takes 6 weeks to build a habit - do it for 6 weeks then decide. At that point, usually you will feel better on days you exercise than days you don't. So yes, habituated but it doesn't take years.

I went on regular daily walks/jogs for about 8 months and I can say the chemicals only came in when I was home, never when I was out doing it.

[–] RBWells@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah jogging never felt good while I was doing it, no runner's high at all, always a slog. But did feel much better on a day I ran, than on a day I did not. I ran back then because the only free time I had was 5-6 in the morning, and no money, running has almost no barrier to entry. Put on shoes and go.

Now I just ride electric bike (I pedal it) to work and do yoga, lift and walk, work in the garden -build activity into normal life by not driving and growing food, nothing active that I don't like to do, still feel good in my body & mind. Aerobic exercise does more, but anything helps.

I guess I just haven't found one I enjoy. Every form of intentional exercise I do always has me checking the time to see how much longer I have to do this till I can say I did enough. Closest I got to enjoying anything close was playing exercise themed videogames like Wii Fit or Ring Fit.

Go dancing, maybe? Or just start walking places as your transportation method, that kept my mom slim her whole life. I am not a super active person, love to sit & read too, but a lifetime of experience has taught me that I will not sleep well or eat enough if I do not exercise or do plenty physical activity.

It's running in particular I dislike, but running in particular really helps anxiety.

[–] Ryanmiller70@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 weeks ago

I don't live in a walkable area. Getting anywhere outside my neighborhood requires crossing a highway with no crosswalk or stops. As for dancing I got no idea if a place for that exists around here. Plus I tend to not like dance music.

It can be done in 6 weeks, but that's no guarantee. I spent like a year and a half in weight watchers, exercising daily. After I hit my goal, as soon as the next winter came around and it wasn't convenient, exercise started going bye bye. My brain is in this picture and I don't like it.

Brain: It doesn't count if you haven't rubbed the rubby place 🤷‍♀️

The clear splashy stuff isn't as good as the darker ones like porters. Potatoes are better when they're brown, not when they're turning green. Generally softer yellow lights are more pleasant, replace your bulbs with 2700K LEDs. Hope this helps.

good/healthy habits don't make you happy.

happiness comes from knowing what you are doing is good for you in the long term.
