Other 196's:
I'm a bit late to the party, but the context is a free browser-based text adventure game called Fallen London. (not to be confused with the Fallout 4 total conversion mod Fallout: London). I've not played it so I can't vouch for it.
My gender is "fuck you, I won't do what you tell me"
“Fuck you, I’m not what you assigned me.
Fuck you, I'm not what you assigned me.
Fuck you, I'm not what you assigned me!
’CAUSE GENDER IS JUST SOCIAL CONSTRUCTS ANYWAY!!”
I've started saying I prefer not to answer because most of the time the gendering is completely pointless, just another piece of data for the advertising machine
Sorry. Old dude here. If they exist, not sure why they do, but what should they be? A feminine to masculine slider?
but what should they be? A feminine to masculine slider?
Unless I'm signing up for something which involves using my penis, why do they even need to ask in the first place? My gender is human.
The question needs to be changed to:
Genitals (optional)
- Penis
- Vagina
- Both
- Neither
- Mind your own fucking business!
Usually they're just for demographic purposes, figuring out if there are more men than women using things, etc.
About the only proposal I would add would be a "Nonbinary" option in addition to "Prefer not to answer". I am a cis guy, though, so I don't presume to speak from any other perspective on the matter!

I take it back. I know why those questions exist. It was for women’s rights and point in government contracts
We received a grant and had to ask all participants their gender as part of the reporting requirements. I included a 'non of you business' option. One person used it.
I didn't see nuthin'!
