Somebody has to write this comment, so it might as well be me. A horse has up to 15 horsepower.

Bonus fact: In polish we call a horsepower unit a "mechanical horse".

But sustained at 1hp when averaged over 24 hours. They are capable of peaks.

They are capable of peaks

Damn, horses outgunning us

[–] SchmidtGenetics@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Humans are capable of “peaks” too. We can’t exert our full power for a sustainable hour either.

When considering human-powered equipment, a healthy human can produce about 1.2 hp (0.89 kW)briefly (see orders of magnitude) and sustain about 0.1 hp (0.07 kW) indefinitely;

But yeah, horses outclass us anyways.

[–] whimsy@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 week ago

True that. But it was an attempt at humour because life seems to go just downhill without very many peaks

In 300 clops, turn right, then you will dismount at your destination

I wonder if you could teach the horse to respond to vibration and/or sound cues for left/right/forward/stop. Safest full self driving mode yet.

"In 500 feet, wohhhh"

[–] Zwiebel@feddit.org 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Umm actually, to rain on your parade, driverless subways are the safest self driving mode, because the literally don't share their path with anybody else!

[–] betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

...don’t share their path with anybody else!

Sometimes they do but not for very long.

Why did the man cross the tracks?

To get to the other side!!! Gettit? Gettit?? 🤣🤣🤣

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 2 points 1 week ago

I think Horses are generally between 3 and 7 horsepower, which is pretty confusing NGL.

[–] Phoenix3875@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Need to put it before the horse's head?

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago
