I don't know why so many people shorten "you" or "your" to "u" and "ur". Are you really saving that much time not typing 2 more letters? It's not 2008 anymore, it makes them sound like a moron when I read it.

I understand it is somewhat commonplace to use those abbreviations when people aren't being 100% serious
i.e. if a situation like this where you're making it clear it's a joke
It took me so long to realize that "v" is supposed to mean "very." V long, one might say.
I feel the same way; it’s not just you. Something about it bothers me.
I don't think it's a huge deal. Languages evolve and change in both formal and informal ways. What's most important is if the message is comprehensible to whom it's intended for.
