Lemmy.world is trash. You'd be better off avoiding the whole instance.
Ye Power Trippin' Bastards
This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.
Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.
Posting Guidelines
All posts should follow this basic structure:
- Which mods/admins were being Power Tripping Bastards?
- What sanction did they impose (e.g. community ban, instance ban, removed comment)?
- Provide a screenshot of the relevant modlog entry (don’t de-obfuscate mod names).
- Provide a screenshot and explanation of the cause of the sanction (e.g. the post/comment that was removed, or got you banned).
- Explain why you think its unfair and how you would like the situation to be remedied.
Rules
- Post only about bans or other sanctions that you have received from a mod or admin.
- Don’t use private communications to prove your point. We can’t verify them and they can be faked easily.
- Don’t deobfuscate mod names from the modlog with admin powers.
- Don’t harass mods or brigade comms. Don’t word your posts in a way that would trigger such harassment and brigades.
- Do not downvote posts if you think they deserved it. Use the comment votes (see below) for that.
- You can post about power trippin’ in any social media, not just lemmy. Feel free to post about reddit or a forum etc.
- If you are the accused PTB, while you are welcome to respond, please do so within the relevant post.
- Keep the comments in YPTB posts about the moderation action itself, not about the general topic in which the moderation took place.
Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.
Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.
YPTB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.
Some acronyms you might see.
- PTB - Power-Tripping Bastard: The commenter agrees with you this was a PTB mod.
- YDI - You Deserved It: The commenter thinks you deserved that mod action.
- YDM new - You Deserved More: The commenter thinks you got off too lightly.
- BPR - Bait-Provoked Reaction: That mod probably overreacted in charged situation, or due to being baited.
- CLM - Clueless Mod: The mod probably just doesn't understand how their software works.
Relevant comms
I have actually had the entire instance blocked for several months now and it’s quite nice!
It doesn’t always work (might be Voyager) because sometimes I still see a comment where I’m like “oh that’s really reactionary and stupid” and it’s still Lemmy.world.
it's lemmy.world you flew too close to the sun :) at least they didn't tarnish you with a "racism" in your modlog
Hah i love my ban for racism and the tripling down on it
Racist abe lincoln quote
but it wasn't the quote that got me banned, it was posting readsettlers.org as the subsequent ban of my blahaj account shows

jonsjava clearly thinks this is anti-white racism but just won't say it out loud
PTB
PTB. Even if someone is overzealously starting all kinds of fights in a thread you ban them for a day or so, people are so quick with the nuclear option. But this is not even that, this is correcting misinfo, but to the zios this is a cardinal sin of course.
I was in that thread, what did you say?
Comments like saying that israel and russia are similar since both occupy and colonize part of other countries. Debunking claims such as Israel never targeted civilians etc. I didn't insult anybody either
I said the same thing essentially, but only once, I guess that the difference, fwiw if that's all you said i disagree with your ban
Each of my comments was different. That is not spamming. Spamming would be copy pasting the same comment for every single comment I reply to. If there is ton of propaganda in the post why can't I comment a lot? And why does he claim the post is old when it is less than 24 hours old?
Sorry I didn't mean to imply that you were copy pasting, and yes, you did the right thing to refute the pro Israeli stuff. As to your last point, i can only say the mod is a power tripping bastard
Israel and Russia are similar since both attempt to occupy and colonize part of other countries. Israel has regularly targeted civilians and provided support while Zionists remove Palestinians from their homes while they colonize. Israel has shot at the kneecaps of Palestinians playing football as their idea of fun.
For some reason, I don't think those are the things that got you banned.
Givesomefucks is a huge Zionist, not surprising.
Well, based on the mod log, we can at least say clueless mod by virtue of the claim of it being an old post.
That being said, the rest of the ban reason includes report excessiveness.
While I personally tend to err on the side of PTB with that by virtue of reporting being vital for moderation, it can be done in a way that merits a ban. Since we can't see the reports, I call it a PTB as a default, but I still think it important to recognize that report abuse exists. If there were proof provided that OP engaged in such, I'd say YDI.
It is a new post so you can't trust anything thre mod say. I reported comments defending war crimes and denying genocide, you find this exessive? Keeping those disgusting comments and banning me permanently instead of giving me a warning or a trmporary ban is disgusting
At least you didn't get instance banned for reporting comments like that 🙃😐
As often happens online, you missed the point.
I said if you had abused reports, it's a valid option to ban for that. Since, as I also said, we have no idea what reports you made, on what comments, or what you said in the reports, the default assumption is that it's PTB to ban for that. They would have to show their reasoning for it not to be.
Fwiw, if a given community doesn't have a rule about comment subject matter regarding stances on a given matter, it can still be report abuse , no matter whether you're right in your opinion about said stance. Generally, you'd make one main report, and point to other comments in it rather than making a ton of individual reports.
As an example, if you run across an asshole spouting nazi bullshit, you send a report about that user being a douche, and mention there are multiple comments by the same person. If a mod wants/needs help finding individual comments, let them ask. It's a kind of difficult line to find, but generally once there's three comments worthy of reporting, it's better to consolidate. That's one of the huge benefits of lemmy/piefed over reddit: custom reports. We have the ability to spell out the problem in a better way.
Again, that's just generally a good practice, and a ban solely for reporting in good faith is not acceptable.
