Share your favorite movie (and other motion picture media) details, potentially with a shitty twist.

To be clear, this is a place for satirical and meta^2^ references. Not really the actual movie details, unless they're truly stupid or have strong meme potential/background. "Oh hai Mark" kind of stuff. Tho sometimes even these can span a good debate.

For maximum funni, include full name of the movie, its release date and all the detail right in the title of the post.

Try to avoid actual shit and other nasty stuff. Mark nsfw when appropriate.

To be fair, playing air guitar well, and getting good sound is really difficult.

Agrees, it doesn't really matter how they did the stunts, the movie brought competitive air slinging to the masses. The sport was on top of the world after this movie released. It was Over The Top for air guitar.

Air Guitar World Championships are every August in Finland. Wyld Stallions walked so we could rock into space on an imaginary fire pegasus.

Do you have to bring your own air guitar or are loaners available? With airline baggage fees i won’t be able to bring mine along.

[–] rob_t_firefly@lemmy.world 9 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

The last time I checked my air guitar it ended up as lost luggage.

[–] Crackhappy@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

That explains one of the ground crew outside the window jamming out on air guitar the last time I flew.

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

If you fly Hawaiian they'll check your air guitar for free.

I think you'll find they are in Oulu, Finland every year since 1996.

My fault entirely, Suomi friend! Skimmed Wikipedia and thought it said Oahu! Fixed the original.

It's hard to find good tone-air

You guys joke, but here in the land of Metal (Finland), we actually hold annual Air Guitar World Championship

Edit idk if I'd trust that link if I was someone else so here's a screen from the website

Pretty sure Reeves played guitar.

[–] zeet@lemmy.world 21 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

That guitar is clearly solid

As am I ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

[–] CuddlyCassowary@lemmy.world 15 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

That’s a bass guitar, so while technically true, not what he was riffing on in the movie.

[–] JohnnyEnzyme@piefed.social 0 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

What's that whammy-bar looking thing at bottom?

I didn't know basses had those, and it doesn't look like it's in the right place for that, anyway.

[–] CuddlyCassowary@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

It’s where his amp cord is plugged in. You typically loop it inside your strap like that so if you accidentally step on the cord you don’t immediately pull it out.

It’s a classic Fender Precision Bass, better known as the P-bass. I have the same model.

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 0 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

There are four thick strings, it is definitely a bass.

[–] JohnnyEnzyme@piefed.social 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Yes, that was completely obvious. I was wondering about the extra bit.

[–] snooggums@piefed.world -3 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

It is a whammy bar, some basses have them. Whammy bars are near the end of the strings. The strings on the base are closer to the back edge of the body which is why the bar is so far back.

[–] CuddlyCassowary@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

No, it’s his amp cord plugged in. See my comment above for more details.

Interesting.
I used to play my share of standup electric before my knuckles fell apart. At the time I wasn't in a band, but did jam with some buddies at times, cords all the hell over the place. Anyway, this seems like a cool idea.

One thing I did with my Danelectro is to replace the strap studs with some ends that could still function that way as needed, but also let you bolt-in the ends of your straps. It made the guitar less prone to accidentally falling off, and easier to get set up. Keanu kinda looks like he might have those installed here (they jut out a lot), but I'm not sure.

Chippin' in!

[–] charonn0@startrek.website 9 points 3 weeks ago

Air guitars don't look like air guitars on film. You have to use air ukuleles. Which has led to the myth that they aren't really playing air instruments at all.

There's one scene they didn't dub and you can tell:

By Steve Vai specifically if I'm not mistaken.
