Just part of nature, an earthquake here, a thunderstorm there, a hospital being bombed in a two tap strike over there, just natural things you can't avoid sadly

It is so difficult to me to get that the us could possibly run out of missiles. Either they have been firing an insane number, or they just had like 12 or 15 stored in some werehouse.

Your first postulation is correct. The US is not prepared for drone warfare and it's showing. The US is firing expensive missiles to intercept cheap Shaheds. I suspect your second may also be true but idk.

There's got to be a certain degree of the defence department ordering a certain number then a lower number being delivered and 'oh dear, we don't know what happened to the others and the costs have risen so maybe the military should have an audit to find the missing money?......'

Isn't that what the ceasefires are for? Restocking?

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

They are slow to build though few week, won't change the outcome

Based on their budget, over the decades, you'd think they'd have a supply built up, no? Wild.

I was thinking more logistics than manufacturing.

Probably decade of underestimating Iran and not anticipating a direct conflict with it

[–] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Yeah but in reality Iran is pumping out 1000 Shaheds while the US is buulding 20 interceptors.

So someone is restocking..

Wow that'd be a crazy coincidence if China decided to invade Taiwan right after we ran out of missiles and had our fleets concentrated on the opposite side of the world. Totally unpredictable.

[–] orc_princess@lemmy.ml 5 points 2 weeks ago

That'd destroy their image and make the people of Taiwan hate them for many generations when it's much simpler to keep the status quo until the people of Taiwan want reunification.

their preferred strategy seems to be sit it out and let the people mingle.
