Tbh it'll all depend on the colour of your skin. If you're white it will probably be ok. Anything else will mark you for arrest and/or deportation.

White, straight-presenting, not obviously something other than christian, and are doing a very standard business trip or holiday trip: you're probably ok.
Anything else and the risk goes up. Even something like taking a trip that starts in Seattle, goes up to Vancouver and then comes back via Canadian flights might be suspicious enough to cause problems.
Probably 99% of the people who go to the World Cup will be fine. Even the ones who are non-white, or are obviously muslim or something. But, I'm positive that with the thousands of people making the trip, there will be tens, maybe hundreds who the Palantir AI and/or racist ICE identify as suspicious, and they will be hit with real trouble.

I have 2 muslim friends who travel to the US at least once a month for business. Obvious visible minorities, obvious muslims.
I cant fathom how they have the confidence to do this but anecdotally, they've never had an issue. It's definitely one of those, high damage, low probability things in terms of risk management.

Brazil has a huge Football (USA Soccer) scene and makes up a large percentage of World Cup tourism. Being dark-skinned Hispanics, they are exactly who ICE targets.
Yep. They're also typically loud and expressive, not quiet and submissive. So, if they encounter ICE they're not likely to just play nice and deescalate.

A dozen will be an understatement. The tournament games span over a week. I think 100 is a closer figure, if FIFA doesn't get their wish of ICE going on 'vacation'.

OFC I fully defend Brazilians or anyone profiled by ICE being "not quiet and submissive". I just want to clarify that because the wording of your comment made me think of how people of color in social and workplace events are more often branded with negative terms than white male counterparts.

IMO the Qatar one was safer. Qatar is a country that wants to be seen as a tourist destination. I'm sure there was a concerted effort to look as good as possible during the world cup. I imagine that during the World Cup the police were instructed to be even more lenient towards tourists breaking the rules because they knew that there was a ton of media in the country, and they wanted that media to tell a story that Qatar was a great place to visit, to live, or to set up a company.
The Trump admin cares a lot more about satisfying their base when it comes to cracking down on "immigrants" than it cares about tourism. Tourists are definitely still a valid target.

Global football has been trending this way anyway. The US is just more obvious about it. Transfer fees are in the hundreds of millions and they're constantly raising ticket prices for matches. This is kinda what happens when theres no real consequences for FIFA
Also, it reflects what people are willing to pay for a once in a lifetime experience.
I used to be that the ticket prices were high but reasonable. FIFA didn't want the bad press for charging higher prices. Now, they're willing to squeeze fans for every fraction of a cent possible and leave those fans angry and upset. They know people will grumble, but they'll still pay. Their reputation is so bad that it can't really get any worse, so why not gouge fans as much as possible.
That and the fear of Trump Nazi Goons doesn't appear to be putting a dent in those coming to the cup. At least in the Seattle area, AirBnBs and other rentals are selling quick. The city and AirBnB put out some incentives for full house rentals and those sold out immediately.
I think the more realistic number of people not going are probably those who were on the fence or who usually can't afford it which is like a slim fraction of a percent of the would be travellers who range in the several hundred thousands currently planning to go.

It's somehow cheaper to attend a Formula 1 race than it is to watch a soccer game. Formula 1 became famous for being one of the richest, most exclusive sports there is, and soccer became famous as the sport that's so cheap, anyone can become involved.

Is it real? Fans didn't skip Russia 2018 or Qatar 2022, they're used to the world cup to be held in authoritarian countries and they're going to be excited about KSA 2034
There is a difference though. During Russia 2018 and Quatar 2022 the local authorities were smart enough not to bother the tourists visiting for the world cup. Do you think the ICE goons will be the same when the VP has already threatened the visitors to the WC ?

The World Cup is gonna be such a shitshow. I'm also assuming there's going to be some kind of terrorist attack from Iran. The WC is like a prime target, so I'm staying far away from any of those areas.

I really hope fear of a terrorist attack shuts the event down. Not an actual terrorist attack—I don't want ordinary civilians to die—but if Iran purposely "leaks" plans to bomb the stadium to the media, I hope that might wreck the World Cup attendance; or even better, get teams to pull out.
