By design...

Bibi doesn't want peace, he wants constant war because that's the only thing keeping him in office and out of prison.

trump also wants to stay in office and put of prison, so he's gonna follow what's working for Bibi.

There's an even wider material explanation. Israel's territorial ambitions are only threatened by the resources coming from Iran. A moderate Iran would have sanctions lifted and would generate much more real reosiurces than today. Its economy grew 7% per year during the partial reprieve of the JCPOA. An extremist regime means more sanctions, more repression and therefore as little resources as possible spared for resisting Iarael's territorial gains. And that's in the in the interest of a lot of Israelis.

I skimmed the article and did not find one name of a moderate who was killed...anybody? Is this metaphorical as in "discredited" the moderates?

It's more like hardliners being replaced with even harder hardliners, who often have personal reasons to be hardliners. Mojtaba Khamenei witnessed his Wife and daughter being murdered in an airstrike. He is not going to be thrilled about the US

[–] gigachad@piefed.social 4 points 1 week ago (2 children)

You are speaking of harderliners aren't you

[–] Eric@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 week ago

No, it is too late and the hardestliners have seized power

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (3 children)

And this is in comparison to the more moderate hardliners who killed ~40,000 protestors a few months back?

[–] couldhavebeenyou@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

These people would have killed 50k

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I don't think desire or intent was the limiting factor in the 40k number

[–] couldhavebeenyou@lemmy.zip 0 points 1 week ago

They were moderates

[–] theolodis@feddit.org 1 points 1 week ago

As far as I am aware of, the estimations range from 6500 to about 36k, but no serious source I've seen so far mentioned 40k. Do you mind sharing where you got that number from?

Lower end (german platform) https://www.statista.com/statistics/1659655/iran-number-of-fatalities-during-the-anti-government-protests/

Higher end (Saudi funded, supports the crown prince in exile) https://www.iranintl.com/en/202601255198

And his father.

[–] frongt@lemmy.zip -2 points 1 week ago

I think so. The first link suggests it would have more info on that topic, but it doesn't.

Same playbook bibi ran in Palestine, no ones more responsible for the rise of Hamas then him.

[–] OpenStars@piefed.social -1 points 1 week ago

Except Hillary Clinton (/s btw 🤪)

[–] Samskara@sh.itjust.works -3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Palestinians have no agency of course.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They really don't. The last time an election happened, the majority of them weren't even alive. Israel wouldn't let them vote in an actual government.

[–] Samskara@sh.itjust.works -4 points 1 week ago

Hamas are of course foreigners totally unconnected from Palestine.

I remember when Trump said "yeah we thought of ppl we wanted for regime change but we killed them". Like wtf?

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Or how he keeps hinting how they are working with someone they consider more reasonable, but can't tell us who because Israel will kill them.

[–] Spacehooks@reddthat.com 1 points 1 week ago

Crazy how that's a legit possibility. Not even "oh that's conspiracy" talk.

[–] anon_8675309@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

How else would you perpetuate a war against a people.

See? He ams smat.
