Come over to my place, the address is 192.168.1.123

[–] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 45 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

There's no place like 127.0.0.1

Side note, the joke in The Simpsons is becoming increasingly obscure. Not only do you have to know about DOS command lines, you have to be familiar with the old "See Spot run" textbooks.

Ah yes, no place like localhost

[–] RVGamer06@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago

I actually set my router to statically assign this IP to my computer

[–] betterdeadthanreddit@lemmy.world 68 points 3 weeks ago

RJ11 vs. RJ45.

For when those jumbo frames are not big enough and you need a switch that supports super jumbo frames.

[–] sylver_dragon@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

It looks like Microsoft is trying to bring back WINS. Those are clearly Window Frames.

[–] hayvan@piefed.world 20 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It's not a switch, it's a patch bay.

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 22 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Once spent a whole day troubleshooting a site remotely over the phone to re-establish network connection

The client assured me the server was connected to the network switch. It wasn't until some repeated questioning about the indicator lights on the switch, which were mysteriously absent, that I realised we were talking about a patch panel and not a network switch.

This was before facetiming and decent res photo cameras on mobile phones.

Yup, status LEDs are great for over-the-phone troubleshooting. If you suspect somebody unplugged a thing and everyone says it's running, ask for them to check the power LED's color.

[–] sqw@lemmy.blahaj.zone 0 points 3 weeks ago

the usefulness of most status LEDs is what makes NICs whose LEDs shine and even blink when they are totally unplugged that much more infuriating.

Ouchie, I felt your pain.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 15 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

That is a really big router or switch.

[–] toynbee@piefed.social 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

If you imagine it a hub, the network collisions get a lot more interesting!

The Great Switch Collider

The left one is a VOIP-to-landline converter.

[–] MilitantAtheist@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

That house better be a pokemon go gym called "the switch"

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 3 points 3 weeks ago

This is what happens when the architect can't be bothered anymore and just start submitting things they found on their desk.

Looks like Japan. Any GeoGuessrs know where?

[–] sudoer777@lemmy.ml 4 points 3 weeks ago

probably, the way they turn their footsteps into electricity helps power giant switches like these

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

There's way too much detail for geoguessr, They like a blurry photo of a dirt road.

This pebble looks Bolivian...

[–] kunaltyagi@programming.dev 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

The footpath has tiles found in Japan. The cycle sign is also quite common there. And the shop has japanese writing

It'd be crazy if this were outside Japan

[–] SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 3 weeks ago

And driving on the left

[–] kunaltyagi@programming.dev 2 points 3 weeks ago

Not a geoguesser but I'd say near tokyo. I haven't seen such protected cycle parks in Tokyo. The footpath tiles are very similar to the ones in Tokyo though
