Anyone else dislike mint as a flavour? Like, peppermint or spearmint chewing gum or tic tac, or toothpaste, minty ice cream, and god damn it keep it away from my chocolate.

I don't mind it as the herb or whatever, it's just the flavouring.

[–] Eagle@aussie.zone 1 points 8 hours ago

Yep. It burns. My 12yo is the same.

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 1 points 9 hours ago

Yes! I'd be very happy never to taste mint again.

At one point when I was growing I had some fruit flavoured toothpaste which was much nicer, I don't know why mint has to be the standard.

I know I've been asking for advice a lot on here, so I just wanted to thank you all for your thoughtful replies and for being here <3

Are peoples cats sleeping longer during winter or is mine just lazy lol

[–] Eagle@aussie.zone 5 points 20 hours ago

I think they all get a bit lazier as the weather cools off.

[–] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 4 points 19 hours ago

It's hard to tell. Miss Meow may have increased from 97% of the day to 98%.

[–] StudChud@aussie.zone 3 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Mickey has just been very needy, if we're moving around he gets angry and starts swiping my legs until I sit down and let him in the oodie or on my lap/chest. He's been sleeping on our bed as well, when during summer he'd be in one of his cubbies or stretched out on the floor.

Gibson has been really needy as well. Anytime I'm in the studio she comes over and rubs all over my legs lol

I am a cat and I am sleeping longer

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 1 points 19 hours ago

the meowing from Bill has increased

and the boys are sleeping upstairs in the living room now because I leave the heater on up there

[–] StudChud@aussie.zone 5 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Fuck I love south park. The other one that kills me is the one with Brittany Spears missing half her head. Okay, that sounds terrible when written, and it is, but it's also funny

[–] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 4 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

The other fave of mine is manbearpig. They apologised for that but that was fuckn' funny.

[–] StudChud@aussie.zone 3 points 19 hours ago

Manbearpig is gold, I like they fixed it, but it's still great! I adore the Randy being Lorde plot, I still say "yah yah yah I am Lorde" when idle 😂

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 1 points 17 hours ago

good night everyone, sweet dreams 😘

[–] Eagle@aussie.zone 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Kisses atop his furry little head from me, please.

[–] Pilk@aussie.zone 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Pleased to hear you are keeping up with your legal obligation to squidge them beans. Your dedication has not gone unnoticed by corporate.

[–] StudChud@aussie.zone 2 points 21 hours ago

I, for one, welcome our catporate overlords and their bean duty.

Looks like they're putting the elevator in next door. Single dwelling, 4 (I think?) stories. I dunno but it'd just feel weird getting in an elevator in your home (unless mobility concerns etc.). I have no idea what sort of person would live in that sorta place. Thankfully it's to the south.

Renderings are up... Fuckn' wild:

The way I recoiled in horror at that street front.

That joint has less personality than a shopping centre.

[–] Force_majeure1234@aussie.zone 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

What I find most absurd is the fact this that an under-construction private residence has its own website

Spending that amount of $ you'd probably want some say in the design. These guys just build it then see who bites I guess. Risky model imo.

[–] tone212_@aussie.zone 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This just looks like any other new build in a upper-class area, extremely boring. And I'm guessing some heritage home was knocked down so we could have this beauty?

Yup. No soul at all.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 points 1 day ago

I just don't understand why

Bit of a rough morning.

Chilli powder yesterday went well. 8 hrs @ 60c in the oven. Air purifier maxxed out lol. End up breathing it in, and then also it goes through 2 latex gloves and absorbed through skin. Stuff is pure fiyah.

Gonna do another batch today as some weird form of self flagellation. Gonna keep the windows open for this one.

Bought new slippers, as a pressie to myself. Also had some nice pairs, but none in my size, until I saw the perfect pair! Last one in my size too!

pink fluffy slippers

Saw the cat. He was kinda following me but by the time I got ready he was gone. Little shit.

I should have just made the RSPCA report.

Because I’ve gone through a decent amount of distress and disruption (not to mention expense) as a result of his ‘visits’ and don’t even get the chance to help him.

spoiler

When I saw how rough he looked I took pity on him and fed him despite it upsetting my own cat. I gave him some of her good spot ons.

I first discovered that he’d infected me with ringworm in Melbcat’s last week, right before she went into hospital for the last time and died. So instead of being able to relax with her before that I was frantically laundering everything to protect her health while she cried for me to come to bed. I came back long enough to settle her and then went back to working.

Then I had to upend my entire house and deep clean the spores instead of having the time to mourn her. The infection still came back.

Then he was crying at my door on a rainy night so I removed all traces of her trying to get everything put in the other room and to create a warm dry space indoors if he needed one. I was stressing about finding him a safe home.

Now he decides he’d rather do whatever he wants and play funny buggers rather than be treated. And his shitty owners just don’t care that he’s out after curfew, sick and infectious, and hunting native birds.

And if he comes back the potential for him to reinfect me or my house still remains.

Screw me for caring I guess. This has made a hard stressful time even harder. I think I’m done trying to help anyone for a while.

[–] Taleya@aussie.zone 3 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Hon, you're raging. It's normal. He's not the cause.

[–] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 3 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago) (1 children)

It’s not his fault (it’s the owners) but it was still a really shitty thing to go through right before and after my own cat died.

I really didn’t need any of this.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 2 points 18 hours ago

so many hugs

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 2 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

so many hugs

and he's just a cat, he can't read your mind or understand your words, if he could he would know you have a heart of gold

[–] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 1 points 19 hours ago

If he wants to stay away and reject help he can do that. I’m so sad and tired.

I avoided going into animal rescue or the veterinary field because I wasn’t able to tolerate seeing the inevitable neglect and abuse. But one day if I’m ever in better shape I might volunteer to foster.

After Melbcat I do have experience and skills with animals needing specialised care.

spoilerWell the RSPCA were useless :/

I can lodge a welfare report but either they talk to the owners which will land me in the shit and likely nothing changes, or there’s a slim chance of him being taken away to the shelter. Neither are great outcomes.

The other alternative is I talk to them but in my experience they won’t take it on board. They tend to just get defensive or hostile and don’t change. I’m trying to draft an email that will let them know he needs vet care that won’t make them feel judged or put them offside but… I can’t.

Or I confine him for 2 weeks to ensure ringworm treatment is completed and then release him hoping he’s healthy enough not to just contract it again… but that’s dicey as legally he’s someone else’s property and it’s a big undertaking for me. That would essentially be a ringworm foster which even experienced able bodied foster carers don’t want to take on, carries the risk of reinfecting me and my house, with the added seasoning of potentially igniting a neighbour feud and getting fined.

I have no idea if the cat flu would resolve without treatment or if he’d have it chronically. And due to a history of fighting and a torn ear he may possibly have FIV (cat version of HIV and usually means they need to be kept indoors).

Fuck I hate neglectful owners. They’ll allow a bad situation to develop where their animal is unwell and/or causing problems to others but you’re the bad guy and you’re the problem if you do anything about it.

‘mInD yOuR oWn BuSiNeSs’

I’d love to but it’s affecting me negatively. I’m dropping my own money to fix this.

Edit: Fuck it. I just sent back a really nice anonymous email saying it’s great to hear he’s not lost, I was concerned because xyz. Btw he very possibly has ringworm. He’s lovely, let me know if there’s anything I can do to help or look out for him.

Boom. Hopefully they take him to the vet. Because I really don’t want to break the law and undertake ringworm quarantine measures alone with a cat that isn’t even mine.

Mentioning that there’s a cat curfew might have helped them but definitely would have got their back up, and not been helpful if he’s running away from a bully cat at their home.

Now I have to do the rest of the deep cleaning and work out what to do with an expensive bottle of lime sulfur dip.
