Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

I'd say that's a good moment to take a breath and check whether this applies before proceeding.

(This obviously doesn't apply for celebrities.)

There's a higher chance you're just minding your business and someone wants to make fun of you

Sometimes I think the person filming is the one doing something very stupid. Regardless, you should take a breath.

More likely to be a victim:

Either:

  1. Someone is already harassing me and this is a bystander recording it for evidence...

or

  1. The one that's recording is about to harass me, probably say vile shit like "Go back to your country"... like I'd probably be in immediate danger

If you're just minding your own business, I'm afraid you're right.

This sounds like personal experience, if that's the case, I'm sorry it happened to you, mate. Sime people can be real dicks.

Or you're about to unwittingly be featured on a Youtube prank video.

Are you sure that contradicts my statement? 😈

Or about to give a public piano a good fingering.

I suggest a third option: something funny.

I've seen some funny recordings that were neither brave nor stupid, just hilarious.

But still, might be a good time to assess if they are laughing with you or at you.

Funnily enough (pardon the pun) I thought about putting the option in, but my personal perception is that people being filmed doing funny stuff are not usually filmed by strangers. Slapstick doesn't count, or rather, I tend to file that under "stupid".

Apparently in San Diego, there's a thing that's been happening (according to other social media) where people will film or photograph other random people when they're just sitting there or waking by or something. I don't get it but it's supposed to be a commentary or something.
