[–] deranger@sh.itjust.works 43 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

The ring is red… like the Xbox

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 12 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

and the square is boxy... like the xbox?

[–] blujan@sopuli.xyz 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

The x is an x, like in xbox

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

An x is like an x? That's too far even for me and I do all the drugs

[–] Magnum@infosec.pub 1 points 1 week ago

Its also a console, just like an xbox

I was legitimately irritated when the called the gen after 360 the "One" instead of the "Delta." They had a good thing going, why would they F that up?

[–] bigkahuna1986@lemmy.ml 15 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

To this day, I am amazed at how badly they effed that name up.

[–] riquisimo@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 3 weeks ago

It's effing crazy, I say.

Good thing? Xbox's whole naming scheme is just shuffling in place for a while with the ‘360’ and ‘One’ before devolving into incomprehensible ‘series whatever’. Microsoft are comically bad at naming.

P.S. They had actually decent naming going on with 'Forza Motorsport' 1-7, and then decided to reset back to no number in 2023 for no good reason. It's like they're outright trying to be ridiculous.

[–] johnyreeferseed@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

The Xbox naming always reminds me of the "New Nintendo 3ds" which was different from the "Nintendo 3ds". People probably got paid a lot of money to come up with the stupidest names.

[–] SlurpingPus@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

‘New 3DS’ wasn't really that egregious, since it was a revision of 3DS. What was worse is that DS, 3DS, and 2DS were released in that order.

[–] BigBananaDealer@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

everybody called the xbox 360 "the 360" so they figured if they named the next one the xbox one everybody would call it "the one"

‘Eks bone’ is the kind of thing why designers spend time finding any and all obscene or unbecoming connotations in their projects before the customers have a chance to do that.

why delta ? because of the triangle ?

[–] wieson@feddit.org 2 points 3 weeks ago

This is the greek letter delta: Δ

[–] Bishma@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

yeah, capital delta is a triangle. It's also used in math and science to indicate rate of change.

[–] Hadriscus@jlai.lu 1 points 3 weeks ago

Cheers ! I was a bit lost. I know delta as "difference from", or "offset" in 3D graphics

[–] newtraditionalists@kbin.melroy.org 16 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

Its crazy to think how much I legitimately cackled at these when they hit the scene, no shade to younger us, it was novel then. just funny to think about is all

[–] The_Picard_Maneuver@lemmy.world 13 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

It's weird that that's just how humor seems to go. At one point, the pinnacle of comedy was someone getting pied in the face.

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 16 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

This is because comedy often revolves around subversion of expectation. When something becomes expected, like a pie to the face, it’s no longer funny.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

free comedy tip, slick. the pie gag's only funny when the sap's got dignity

[–] Frostbeard@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Like all slapstick tbh. Inspector Clousau doesn't enter the situation with the expectation that he will push the duchess tits in the wedding cake, and then slip and rip her dress off. Delboy wants to play it nice and cool but still falls down

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

dammit now i really, intensely miss Peter Sellers. The movie they cut together after his passing was not great, but A Shot In the Dark was phenomenal.

[–] agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago

The comedic treadmill

[–] Kojichan@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago

Bill Gates deserved it!

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 weeks ago

Yeah I used to binge f7u12 for hours at a time. Then one day something just clicked and they were no longer funny. It was weird.

[–] SlurpingPus@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

Rage comics were objectively more creative than current memes, because they told stories instead of just slapping text over stock images.

[–] 48954246@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

I hope people know this by now but it was named after the windows graphics api DirectX.

DirectX Box > X-Box
