Showerthoughts
A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.
Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:
- Both “200” and “160” are 2 minutes in microwave math
- When you’re a kid, you don’t realize you’re also watching your mom and dad grow up.
- More dreams have been destroyed by alarm clocks than anything else
Rules
- All posts must be showerthoughts
- The entire showerthought must be in the title
- No politics
- If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
- A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
- Posts must be original/unique
- Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS
If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.
Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.
The doctor told me I need to lose 10 lbs. Now you're telling me I need to be an elephant. I don't know whose advice I should be taking.

the better way to express it would be to spell ‘were’ instead of ‘where’
“Be the adult you needed when you were younger” is my version.
This is a much better version. Thank you for this, I’m going to use it.

Yes, but "people" must include oneself as well. Else it just becomes another people-pleaser mantra.
The old "do unto others' maxim. I agree.
"Treat people how you wish to be treated " is mine
I feel this is bigger than most people realize.
How many times has an improvement to society been suggested and "Well, I never had that, so why should others?" pops up, and something that could help a lot of people just gets tossed aside because somebody wants everyone to suffer as they have.
My sense is that a lot of the people who say, “Well, I never had that, so why should others?” fail to recognize or remember the kindnesses and support they did receive. i.e.: they'll also say, "I grew up the child of a single mom on welfare - no one gave us anything." There's a specific right-winger I'm thinking of, but I can't remember his name.

Craig T. Nelson is a huge asshole.
I made a vow in my twenties: Think about how my sperm donor would handle a situation/person and do the exact opposite...
I think apart from the spelling mistake there is one logical error in it for maximum kindness. It excludes all of those people who were fortunate enough to be surrounded by kindness. If they weren't denied any kindness they're allowed to be assholes.
It's a variation on the theme of "do unto others as you would have others do unto you." "Meet all people with kindness who mean you no harm." could be a rephrasing that balances maximizing outward kindness with a necessary amount of self defense.
