A horrible hint of the Sarajevo Safaris

[–] Dasus@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

An HR manager paying 15k to kill people remotely seems fitting.

Ofc it's fucking Sara from HR. She always had that look in her eye.

[–] Godric@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

puts away credit card

Ah yes, satire, haha yes....

You round up the right gamers and you can grief Russia into rage quitting the war.

I could so see them chopping up a person, spreading their entrails in the hope to grow into a tree.

Oh wait you mean the controlling the simulation thing, my bad

[–] tigeruppercut@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That only works after the war is over and you have time to reflect on your role in genocide.

Man that series went off the rails fast

[–] Aussiemandeus@aussie.zone 2 points 23 hours ago

Yeah such a strong start then just crazy. Still I really enjoyed the books but it certainly felt unrelated.

Kinda reminds me of the Alastair Reynolds books. Very interesting but only vaguely connected

I wouldn’t feel comfortable attacking people, because there’s no telling if they’re viscous killers or involuntary, reluctant draftees. Sign me up to attack a grounded plane, though. Especially if it’s a rare, expensive one!

[–] Damage@feddit.it 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Viscosity is a range anyways

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 4 points 2 days ago

They're more viscous than water. More vicious, too.

[–] real_squids@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 day ago

You can try drone interceptors then. There's new tech that allows pilots to control them hundreds of kilometers away

[–] notabot@piefed.social 22 points 2 days ago (1 children)

You jest, but a Texan company created an internet controlled rifle turret over 20 years ago. There was talk of using it for hunting, but I don't know if that went anywhere. The jump from that to hunting humans with flying drones is more one of morality than technology.

Also, in a similar vein, there are reports about wealthy people going to Bosnia in the '90s during the war on safaris to kill people. So the concept of allowing random civilians to participate is not without precedent either.

[–] Evil_Shrubbery@thelemmy.club 4 points 1 day ago

If GTA6 VR sells well wealthy ppl will be able to do that in USA by charting one of them fancy robots.

[–] Damage@feddit.it 6 points 2 days ago (3 children)

That's seriously fucked up

[–] PugJesus@piefed.social 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Don't worry, it's not real.

[–] Damage@feddit.it 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I know, or there would have been several expletives

[–] PugJesus@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago

At the least!

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That doesn't even hold a candle to the mobile crematoriums that were deployed early in the war.

[–] Damage@feddit.it 3 points 1 day ago (2 children)

It's not a competition, but the people who "buy" this "service" are not involved in the war in any way, they have zero reason aside from mental illness to participate in it. It's seriously fucked.

Killing people is not a sport, even in war it shouldn't be done lightly, no matter who's the taeget. Check yourselves.

[–] I_Has_A_Hat@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

checks self

Wow! After some self-examination I was surprised to discover that I actually have zero problem with anyone killing fascists, for any reason, and in any manner! I was also surprised to discover that I have a negative opinion toward anyone who thinks that's a problem!

[–] Damage@feddit.it 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Yeah sure, let's keep on exterminating poor people, while also giving rich fucks a chance to hunt them for sport, that's absolutely fine.

There's a difference between fighting an invader because you have to, and paying just to kill someone, putting yourself willingly in a situation you had no need to be in.

Luckily it's just a meme.

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 0 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I mean if this were real those people were going to die anyway so it's not exactly a blood spot.

[–] Damage@feddit.it 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That's so completely beside the point I wouldn't even know where to start, but let's ignore that, would it be ok for you to pay for the privilege of killing a death row inmate?

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Isn't that the whole point though? They're going to die anyways so the method by which they die is irrelevant. It certainly has nothing to do with any decision that I may make.

From a moral point of view nothing has changed, death has occurred but it was always going to occur.

[–] Damage@feddit.it 1 points 1 day ago

From a moral point of view nothing has changed, death has occurred but it was always going to occur.

It has. Something unpleasant that could arguably be a necessary evil, became a source of pleasure for disturbed individuals.

[–] HikingVet@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Lol.

Completely wiffing the point of how fucked this invasion by Russia is that paying to kill an infantry soldier with a drone is orders of magnitude less of a war crime than the top of the list.

[–] Damage@feddit.it 2 points 1 day ago

As I wrote, I don't think it's a competition in fucked-up-ness.

[–] snooggums@piefed.world 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

There is plenty of military imfrastructure to destroy, it doesn't have to be people.

[–] angband@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Wolverines!

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Much of the Ukraine war is already crowdfunded. Crowdsourcing the fighting is a logical next step. The future will be great!
