Hasn't it been revealed that Epstein is coordinating with oligarchs to promote conspiracy theories to dumb people down?

I also want to say I noticed Americans seem to promote idiot kinds of conservatives like Jordan Peterson, Ben Shapiro and Charlie Kirk. I'm not conservative, but there are far more intelligent conservative pundits, such as David Frumm and Roger Scruton, who make more sense. Oligarchs promote idiot individuals to control the narrative which, in turn, control the masses' perception of reality.

WRONG! It's to makes us think more about things that ain't real and are beyond yas control and less about how you's getting screwed by the billionaires and how you got leverage against them

There are tons of real conspiracies. There are tons of theories. Don't trust your government or people wearing tin foil hats.

[–] daannii@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago

At this point, tin hat is more reliable. But yeah generally not the best resource.

[–] ZkhqrD5o@lemmy.world 10 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

There absolutely are real conspiracies, USA mass surveillance, corporate control over media and censorship, social media amplifying autocratic propaganda while shadowbanning democratic content, big tech making propaganda easily accessible though text, image and video generation, fossil fuel oligarchs lobbying against change for the better, anything Epstein was doing, etc.

No need to invent stuff.

USA mass surveillance isn't a conspiracy theory because they've been pretty open about it.

NSA warrantless surveillance was a huge topic in the 2000s and even involved a lot of litigation.

It's not an anti journalism take. Journalism is valuable. I mean the american media landscape and the control mega corporations have over almost all of their popular media. Disney, WB and Netflix come to mind.

[–] SynonymousStoat@lemmy.world 3 points 9 hours ago

It used to be a conspiracy theory that the NSA and maybe other 3 letter agencies had closets at ISPs where they were slurping up all the traffic, later it turned out to be true around 2006 and they definitely weren't open about it until whistleblowers started making noise.

The conspiracy isn’t “aliens don’t exist.”

The conspiracy is “aliens do exist and the government is hiding them.”

The government spreads this to hide actual secrets.

[–] RustyShackleford@piefed.social 8 points 13 hours ago

That’s a name they want you to react to, Semi. It’s a trigger phrase. You think that’s a coincidence? That’s how they tag citizens in the database!

See, everybody thinks the conspiracy is whether aliens exist. That’s amateur hour. That’s what they feed the masses so they can feel smart arguing about it at the Mega Lo Mart checkout line.

The real conspiracy… is that aliens absolutely exist, and the government needs you arguing about it. Keeps your eyes off the real operation—interdimensional trade agreements, cattle mutilation tax write-offs, and whatever’s going on in Nevada that smells like propane and betrayal.

And you know how they keep it buried? They leak just enough “truth” to make it look crazy. Grainy photos, lunatics on late-night radio, a guy named “Dale”, who just happens to sound unhinged—yeah, I’m onto that too.

That’s called narrative control, Semi. You don’t hide the truth—you poison it so nobody credible wants to touch it.

So no, the conspiracy isn’t “aliens don’t exist.” That’s the decoy. The conspiracy is that they’ve turned the truth into a joke… and now anyone who gets close to it gets lumped in with me.

…which is exactly what they want.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to rotate my bug-out tuna supply. The cans have started listening.

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 1 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Exactly. They spread partially incorrect info to hide the real info. Just like they started the flat earth movement to hide the fact that the earth is actually an oblong.

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 3 points 14 hours ago

It’s slightly oblong but the real reason is they don’t want people to know about the elephants.

Which country's government?

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 4 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

I’m sure a lot of them, but most of the examples I can think of are American.

[–] EyIchFragDochNur@lemmy.world 0 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

And what secrets do these countries hide by saying something about aliens?

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 1 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

In the case of Paul Bennewitz, classified radio transmissions. They convinced him it was aliens and he died in a mental hospital.

Then there was Kecksburg, where a classified spy satellite was deorbited and they just let folks believe it was an alien spacecraft.

Same goes for all the Area 51 and Roswell stuff that helps hide experimental aircraft and secret operations behind a smoke screen of woo.

[–] EyIchFragDochNur@lemmy.world 0 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (1 children)

Yea that's all wackos wanting to believe.

"I make up weird shit in my head and it's all your fault" lol

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 3 points 13 hours ago

Bennewitz’s disinformation campaign has been confirmed. The USAF passed him fake documents and encouraged him to think they were UFOs. The book Mirage Men documents this in some detail.

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 7 points 13 hours ago

This one is actually true, introducing conspiracy theories is a proven tactic to water down actual discourse on subjects like the Epstein files, data collection, crop-dusting, or Israeli genocide.

[–] DmMacniel@feddit.org 1 points 10 hours ago

What if, Conspiracy Theories are actually B Plot?

[–] owenfromcanada@lemmy.ca 1 points 13 hours ago

Idiocracy was a plot by big dumb to sell more crocs
