"Ha, Amazon is starting to suck! I'm shopping at Walmart!" 😬
Off My Chest
RULES:
I am looking for mods!
1. The "good" part of our community means we are pro-empathy and anti-harassment. However, we don't intend to make this a "safe space" where everyone has to be a saint. Sh*t happens, and life is messy. That's why we get things off our chests.
2. Bigotry is not allowed. That includes racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, and religiophobia. (If you want to vent about religion, that's fine; but religion is not inherently evil.)
3. Frustrated, venting, or angry posts are still welcome.
4. Posts and comments that bait, threaten, or incite harassment are not allowed.
5. If anyone offers mental, medical, or professional advice here, please remember to take it with a grain of salt. Seek out real professionals if needed.
6. Please put NSFW behind NSFW tags.
The amount of people smugly saying this like the fucking Waltons are any better than Bezos is hard to find credible.
I am still more likely to Amazon than Walmart. Fuck them Waltons.
Fr. I am at least pretty sure Amazon workers are making a decent wage. Waltons rely on food stamps and social security programs to pay their workers less than a living wage.
Psst… they’re not.
It’s interesting how the perception of Amazon for regular users is “if the delivery takes more than a day, Amazon is slipping” when my perception has been fading for coming on a decade. Amazon’s pricing has been climbing and they welcomed millions of drop shippers and counterfeit products with fake reviews and brushing schemes everywhere. The browsing experience is miserable as a result.
At this point, it’s better to find a reputable local-ish retailer or just go to Aliexpress. If you need it so badly in the next 24hrs, go get it yourself. Amazon’s “free” shipping has warped people’s brains.
A good portion of Amazon postings are just resold aliexpress items marked up 10x anyways.
Sadly no. they are dominant so they can let their service slide because what are you going to do, buy stuff elsewhere?
I actually tried that, turns out 2/3 of the sellers there just use it as an overlay interface to Amazon. I got several packages shipped in Amazon wrapping. Yay!
Trading one company not paying employees a liveable wage for another. Joy, but you do what you can.
Actually, yes. We dropped Amazon more than a year ago now, and if there's something that needs to be ordered in, we just order from the company site. Has not been a problem. In fact, we're probably buying less shit we don't really need, too.
Like I said, I've been using Walmart more.
Always remember the Dutch east indies trading company and being able to get homes from Sears. Both gone.
It’s amazing what Sears and the other catalog stores threw away when they just didn’t catch on to the concept of a digital catalog even after Bezos showed them how to do it.
The East India companies (there was more than one) had their own armies, and waged war.
Didn't know it was more than one company.
You need a serious history lesson
This is the dumbest post. Stop using Amazon and Walmart ffs. Why would we rejoice at your post? You represent the average person who doesnt five a fuck what their money supports.
Reported you. This post is for people to get stuff of of their chest. Not for you to get mad about the fact that not everyone shares your political/economical beliefs. Y
Most people use Amazon. Accept it.
I love Amazon. And Temu :)
Mod note: See rule 1. This is a space to get shit off your chest, but also people might feel a need to unload in response. As long as the comments aren't bigoted or threatening, we support the unfettered exchange of ideas. Nothing here rises to the level of mod interference.
Fair enough. I thought him calling the post dumb was a step beyond, but I appreciate you looking into it and coming up with a decision. Thank you!
Okay well if I dont fit in here I'm okay with being blocked.
I'm not saying you should be blocked, I'm saying you don't have to be a jerk. The OP was getting something off their chest and ranting. That's what the comm is for.
But to come at them in the comments, sorta breaks the spirit of the community and makes less people wanna post here.
Your comment would be better handled if you started a new post and just said that you're upset that so many people use amazon. That way you are not attacking the OP directly.
Sounds like a shitty community then if it supports Amazon or Walmart.
The world doesn't need more echo chambers, BTW.
Dude, I'm wondering if you're aware of what this community is called, and what it's about. It has nothing to do with supporting Amazon or Walmart. What are you going on about?
I think you just wanna be a jerk in all of your online interactions. Your mod history...um, it's pretty telling.
We're done. Have great day, mate.
I'm aware, I think its a dumb idea for a community. Sounds like you don't like when people disagree with you.
No one. The free shipping model was not sustainable, and it was never free.
Amazon is in retraction because of a drop in sales after COVID habituation and because some retailers cannot afford their 40% service fees.
So to everyone hating on Amazon, rejoice! It looks like it’s reign is starting to dip.
Says the person ordering "a lot of stuff" around the holidays and
Fast forward to this month, and all of the items I ordered
who even knows how much stuff in the middle of March.
This trend has pretty much been continuous since the holidays.
The point I'm making isn't about shipping times, but about people still making a lot of purchases from amazon regularly. You're now saying that you were buying something from amazon often enough to say that their shipping problems have been continuous, so I'm assuming you've been giving them your money every month, not including your prime subscription.
Also, as someone else mentioned, amazon actually makes most of their money from AWS, not through sales.
AWS will live for a very long time, no matter what happens to the retail business.
Their AI checkout system will routinely delete items from orders for no reason.
The multi-billion dollar hit they take from this might just trigger a bubble to burst.
What does "Off My Chest" mean? Apparently whatever.
Just AWS and Amazon logistics alone are going to keep them in business a long time
I'm not a fan of Amazon's business practices, but when I was stationed overseas with the US military for 8+ years, they were the fastest and most reliable way for me to order supplies from back home, so my wife and I got a Prime account for the benefits. We could get our goods in about a week, as opposed to 2-3 weeks for a regular account.
Now I'm recently retired, living back home in the US, and I'd like to give up our Prime account, but there's apparently a distribution warehouse near our home, so every time I order something, it asks if I want it delivered within the next few hours. Goddamn, that's better home delivery service than Walmart in my area! That makes it very difficult to give up.
My wife and I generally vote with our money. If we don't approve of a company, then we refuse to spend money on them. But Amazon is, unfortunately, one service we haven't cut off yet. Maybe one day.
