I am sure he is a vile and disgusting person for completely unrelated reasons but I hate how having a kink is made out to be some shameful and horrible defect that you can be "accused" of and have to keep secret.

I dont know if this is some further pathology of their sexuality and politics, but like, I think the shame, knowing its wrong to them is part of the kink.
