Little bit more on it here:

https://forum.syncthing.net/t/does-anyone-know-why-syncthing-fork-is-no-longer-available-on-github/25661/251

Minimal wrapper for Syncthing on Android. Unlike Syncthing-Fork, it does not use Android’s Storage Access Framework to avoid performance degradation. The intention behind this project can be found here. This one needs more vetting from the community to determinate if the developer is trustworthy.

The dev has some chops. Multiple projects with lots of activity over years. I realize his pseudonym makes people nervous, but his name appears to be Andrew. 😂

Looks great, I'm glad to have an alternative after the syncthing-fork debacle.
It also seems this one worries about only running Syncthing and lets and does all configuration via the web UI. Pretty good choice IMO

What happened with syncthing-fork? I heard about some problem, but I don't know any details whatsoever.

basicSync app size 28mb
syncthing-fork app size 165mb

As far as I know that's because the "universal" binary is shipped with multiple platforms supported.

How do I switch over from Syncthing-fork? I assumed since its the same device it should "just work", but opening the config in Basic Sync I cannot see any folders I have set up before in Syncthing-fork. Do I have to redo that?

You can import/export the configuration between these apps.

[–] merde@sh.itjust.works 0 points 1 week ago (1 children)

import/export put basicSync in a reboot loop. twice.
I had to clean the storage and reconfigure from scratch

That's unlucky. It worked for me on first try.

[–] bonenode@piefed.social 1 points 1 week ago

Seemingly did for me as well. But haven't synced anything yet. Thanks for sharing.

Hm, it somehow deleted all my files at the sync destination. And now doesn't sync whats left on my phone. I think I'll start over with this when I have the time, it is just 2 different folders to setup for me anyhow.

Edit: welp, just in case someone wants to learn from my stupidity. Make sure you grant the app access to your filesystem or it cannot read the folder, will therefore assume the folder you want to sync is empty and then possibly delete all contents in the place you want to sync to. At least thats how it looks to me now.

I have set my phone to sync to my server, send only. Server receive only. Phone said nothing there to send anymore, the folder is empty, so maybe that caused the server to delete all those files. Oops.

website says 404 but fDroid app opens it🤷

or you can just refresh repos (in fDroid or droid-ify) and it's the first app on the "latest" tab

That's weird. Here is the url to the source code btw
