Saw a vid recently of a guy juicing a pomegranate and it had a lot more juice in a single fruit than I would have imagined. I mean, the part you eat is just the thin layer of meat around the seeds 🤷‍♂️

He only juiced like 4 or 5 of them and got the same amount of juice as one of the larger Pom bottles. The fruit being super cheap where I am makes me wanna get a juicer. I could have fresher juice and spend like 75% less.

Peel and seed, then salt and eat. The most zen fruit ever.

You’ll get no sympathy from me, Mr Primavera, if that’s even your name. Sometimes the effort is part of the flavor. Makes it a little sweeter.

What? A blender and a cheese cloth, or even just a coffee filter, will free the good stuff pretty easily.

But the reward is pomegranate so it's always worth it

I never knew what part to eat. Also, instead of swearing, I sometimes use pomegranate or another fruit like apricot on place of an explicitive.

Are you apricoting me right now? Sounds way kinkier.

[–] HoneyMustardGas@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

And fruity.

I eat pomegranate like popcorn while watching movies, except spit the seeds. You can eat them but I don’t care for them, personally.

So split the thing open, sometimes I’ll pull the jewels out into a bowl, but usually I’ll just pluck one or two, suck out the juice, and spit the seed.

It’s a very good mindless snack for boredom eating.

Aren’t the seeds the best part?

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 2 points 23 hours ago

I used to eat them mainly because it's easier but I don't think they have much flavor.

[–] ButteryMonkey@piefed.social 0 points 23 hours ago

I don’t like them, they are kinda peppery and don’t go well with the tangy juice imo, but to each their own.

just watch a video of a skilled person and it becomes pretty clear what the trick is

basically cut off the top and then cut it into 4ths along the pith and the seeds will fall away from the pith like it was meant to be

Also if you split it open in a big bowl of water, the tasty fruits separate really easily.

Life hack: do it under water

How do I keep from drowning?

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 2 points 21 hours ago

Recruit some helpful mermaids to kiss some fresh air into you.

Yeah, it's one of those things where there really is an easier way, and it's not completely intuitive. We had a pomegranate tree at our last house and that method was life changing - it went from being ornamental to well consumed.

[–] ryannathans@aussie.zone 1 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

Any idea why the insides of the fruit from my tree are white?

[–] agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works 1 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Oh my god Ryan you can't just ask people why fruits are white

[–] ryannathans@aussie.zone 1 points 11 hours ago
[–] AFKBRBChocolate@lemmy.ca 1 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, they pretty much always are. They're seeds and the white part is the actual seed part. Sometimes the white part is bigger or smaller.

[–] ryannathans@aussie.zone 1 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Right, the photos I see online have lots of red balls whereas mine are always white. There's no colour at all

[–] AFKBRBChocolate@lemmy.ca 1 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Oh, you mean the translucent part is white, not the pithy thing in the middle. It's not completely ripe.

[–] ryannathans@aussie.zone 1 points 11 hours ago

Ahhh that'll do it. Animals must eat them before they get a chance to ripen

[–] hansolo@lemmy.today 3 points 23 hours ago

100% skills issue.

I learned the right way to do them, I can get every yummy little seed thing out without causing a murder scene in 3-5 min.

[–] starik@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 day ago

That’s why Eli Whitney invented the pomegranate thresher
