That's just how submachine guns of the period are - they're simple blowback, so they need really big and heavy bolts to work safely and at reasonable rates of fire, and those bolts need a lot of space in the receiver to travel

this will eventually be fixed by people figuring out you can just telescope a bunch of the bolt mass forward, and have it wrapped around the barrel or above it

The design also takes cues from the Kalashnikov design and PPSh-41.
What are they chambered in? My Brother in law has a ww2 pre-ban Thompson and it’s an absolute riot to shoot. I firmly stand by the fact that even the most anti-gun person would have a blast shooting a Thompson. That little vertical grip is interesting if it’s effective at countering the barrel rise.
I assume 7.62x25mm by the curvature of the magazine

The Soviets gave submachine guns to the KMT and later the Communists, and the PRC set up its own production of the PPSh-41 and PPS-43, so they already had experience with that caliber. Although I'm not sure if these particular guns were made during the war with Japan or afterwards
Holy stock drop, WTF were they thinking
lmao that would be the thompson I have at home if I had a thompson at home
now THAT'S a gun
Gorgeous
